I couldn't compare The 1967's Planet of the Apes to the new Tim Burton's POTA, because they are sooo different from each other.
The first movie has his own mythology, and it was pretty much influenced by the culture of the 60's (The Cold War, male-female roles in society, and so on). It brought many questions to reflect about human nature and civilazation progress at all cost.
The new movie is far much superior technicaly (of course, we are at the 21st century), the costumes and makeups are extremely detailed, allowing the actors and actresses who play the Apes to show all they acting skills.
The story is very different in some points. The humans, for instance, know how to speak(in the first one, they didn't). But the main plot remains the same: There is a planet where the apes rule and the humans are a slave species. There is a strange man that confronts the
status quo, trying to release humans from apes' enslavering.
As Sydney said, I also heard that Tim Burton's version is much closer to the original novel book than the first movie.
Well, POTA is coming here in my town on friday, 4th of August, and I'm going to watch it for sure, you bet that!
oh, I almost forgot to mention this: I heard yesterday that Charlton Heston, who played the main character of the first POTA, as Cel. Taylor, is doing a small role as an old ape in Tim Burton's POTA. I didnt have time to comfirm that. Anyone else heard about that?
