I saw Planet of the Apes and it was so....

Awesome! I loved it. It was very, very different from the original, but I still like it a lot. Any other opinions?

I saw it yesterday... It was enjoyable, not great. Tim Burton's great but I wish he would have made it more like his previous films...more dark and creepy. It had flaws, not the greatest script, but good. (those female monkeys had eye brows! weird...)it was ok.

now why did i think daniel was going to say something negative i wonder...

Sydney 07-30-2001 02:51 AM

I've been hearing mixed reviews on it. I can't imagine anything by Tim Burton not being good. I've loved everything of Burton's, Peewee's Big Adventure being the only exception.

I've heard that Tim Burton's interpretation is a lot closer to the book, as opposed to the older movie.

I'll be seeing it when it comes out in Australia.

I THINK THE OLD VERSION IS WAY BETTER BECAUSE IT HAS SO MUCH TWISTS AND EERIE STUFF. I think that the new one will just be based on hero, action, love and all the other basic crap you find in movies e.g star wars TFM.

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 07-30-2001 11:35 AM

Yeah, original is always best.

I couldn't compare The 1967's Planet of the Apes to the new Tim Burton's POTA, because they are sooo different from each other.

The first movie has his own mythology, and it was pretty much influenced by the culture of the 60's (The Cold War, male-female roles in society, and so on). It brought many questions to reflect about human nature and civilazation progress at all cost.

The new movie is far much superior technicaly (of course, we are at the 21st century), the costumes and makeups are extremely detailed, allowing the actors and actresses who play the Apes to show all they acting skills.

The story is very different in some points. The humans, for instance, know how to speak(in the first one, they didn't). But the main plot remains the same: There is a planet where the apes rule and the humans are a slave species. There is a strange man that confronts the status quo, trying to release humans from apes' enslavering.

As Sydney said, I also heard that Tim Burton's version is much closer to the original novel book than the first movie.

Well, POTA is coming here in my town on friday, 4th of August, and I'm going to watch it for sure, you bet that!

oh, I almost forgot to mention this: I heard yesterday that Charlton Heston, who played the main character of the first POTA, as Cel. Taylor, is doing a small role as an old ape in Tim Burton's POTA. I didnt have time to comfirm that. Anyone else heard about that?

Yes! He was! i he was an old ape. I won't give out too much info because he comes toward the end. Also, you can really tell its him.
The first was superior in my opinion like mosts. The very, very end(i won't give it away) had a nonsencical plot twist. Like Oddbodd said the first is much creepier. there were a couple references to the first too.
(btw,Charlton Heston is a gun nut,in this movie hes afraid of guns!)

That movie was so ****ing fresh!

glukkon_daniel 07-31-2001 04:00 AM

I liked it a lot better than the original. I thought it was cooler, funnier, had a better storyline, and was just plain... better.

Sexy Slig 07-31-2001 08:40 AM

The original ones the best by far, Tim Burton was out of his depth for the latest one. And did he really direct Pee Wees big adventure?

Lampion 08-04-2001 05:11 PM

I saw POTA yesterday and the movie is very powerfull. Its the best "summer" movie so far, compared to Tomb Raider, The Mummy Returns, Shrek, Atlantis, Jurassick Park III, and many others I can't remember now.

Tim Burton left his mark again, Helena Bohan Carter was great as Ari, I felt more attracted to her than to the blondie with big boobs and red lips. And two more words: Danny Elfman!

i found one thing wrong with that movie that troubled me. towards the beginning, it shows a little screen on the space station (or the pod i dont know which) that said the year he left was 2029. i dont think that wed be that advanced yet. but otherwise i thought it was better than the original.

Lampion 08-06-2001 04:37 AM

Thirty years ago, in 1969, the first man landed in the Moon. Since then, science and technology have been advacing in an increasing ratio.

Thirty years from now, in 2029, another man might be putting his feet in some moon of Saturn, who knows...

General Drippik 08-06-2001 06:02 AM

Well, I've heard good and bad things about this movie. I think that.... What do I think? Oh well, I wouldn't see that movie in a million years.

Statikk HDM 08-07-2001 08:00 PM

What Sydman!!! You don't like Peewee Herman, Are you out of your mind! Just kidding I saw that movie, it was a stinkeroo. Tim Burton's best is Nightmare Before Christmas, of what I've seen. By the way has anyone seen monkeybone, I wanted to see it.

UnseenProphet 08-07-2001 11:05 PM

Didn't hear too many good things about Monkeybone. I loved the Nightmare Before Christmas.
