Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the first annual (hopefully) Oddworld Forums Fan-Art Competition! That’s right, it’s a chance for you all to show off your art skills and have your hard, heart-felt labours torn apart by a bunch of savage, cruel judges!
Or something.
The theme for this competition is
Fears!
What you’ve gotta do:
- Draw/paint/whatever a piece of art set in Oddworld and using the competition theme, Fears.
- You cannot attach images in PMs, so upload your piece to an image-hosting website (see the rules below)
- PM it to me!
- Sit back and wait for the results.
Anonymity is good!
The aim is for each entry to not be attributable to its artist; in other words, we don’t want the judges to know who drew/painted/etc. what until after the competition, just to avoid any accidental bias.
For this end, we have the following rules.
- Do not upload your picture using Oddworld Forums, Deviant Art or any other website that will easily link it to you. You can stick it on your Deviant Art page after the competition has been judged.
- Do not post your picture on the forums, or show it or describe it to anyone else online until after the competition has ended.
More rules:
- You must use official Oddworld species that have appeared in-game. So no unused creatures from the Art Book or fan-species. You may use creatures from any Oddworld game.
- You must create your picture specifically for this competition; do not submit anything that you have posted on the internet before.
- You must make some sort of use of the Fears theme, no matter how abstract.
- You can use any sort of medium for your drawing, but you may not trace any OWI art, or manipulate an existing picture. It must be entirely your own work.
- If you submit your piece, then edit it, you may resubmit it once, and only once. So make sure it's perfect the second time! (Better yet, make sure it's perfect the first time!)
You will be judged on:
- Quality: how good is your piece generally? (Your picture won’t be compared to anyone else’s for this, so if you do a pencil drawing you don’t have to worry about it looking second place to someone’s digital masterpiece)
- Oddness: How well does your picture capture the feel and look of Oddworld, its creatures and atmosphere?
- Originality and creativity: How original is your work, generally? Does it stand out from the rest?
- Use of theme: How creative is your use of the competition theme, Fears?
- Enjoyment: How much did the judges enjoy viewing your entry?
Each category will be marked out of 10, giving you a total mark of 50 per judge.
The closing date for this competition is
Wednesday the 31st of March, 11:59, GMT. You must have submitted your entry by this time!
When the results from the judges are in, the pictures will be posted in Fan Corner along with the results, and the winner will be forever recognised in the Fan-Corner Competition Hall of Fame!
SO whaddaya waitin’ for? GET BACK TO WORK!
