"One thousand years ago
Superstition and the sword ruled
It was an age of darkness
It was a world of fear
It was the age of Gargoyles!"

Does anyone remember this show?
Back in the 90's Disney gave Greg Weisman (the man heading the new spectacular spiderman show) the freedom to create a cartoon series that would bring his vision to the small screen; what he came back with broke the animation superhero mould. Drama, action, romance, betrayal; these were just some of the aspects emphasised by this stellar show. This was a series that captured the feel of dramatic anime better than most other animated North American productions.
It was a show that incorporated an assortment of mythological characters as well as several Shakespearean and other literary influences (which other animation has Macbeth as one of the main antagonists). Over it's short run it managed to build a huge tapestry of stories that build upon each other with each progressing episode.
After a run of two years the show was cancelled in 1996; but for ten years a loyal fanbase has kept the property alive by organising annual conventions (called
Gatherings).
Now Greg Weisman in conjunction with Slave Labor Graphics, has restarted the franchise by writing comics set after the second season. Has anyone else been following this comic?
Anyone who hasn't seen the show check out this trailer for the trade paperback volume 1.

I have to say that these comics amazingly capture the feel of the original series and progress the story brilliantly.
Whether you've seen the original show or not I fully recommend these comics to anyone who appreciates good writing and storytelling.
