New Gargoyles comic (Slave Labor)
"One thousand years ago Superstition and the sword ruled It was an age of darkness It was a world of fear It was the age of Gargoyles!" http://www.imagehosting.com/out.php/...oyles01Cvr.jpg Does anyone remember this show? Back in the 90's Disney gave Greg Weisman (the man heading the new spectacular spiderman show) the freedom to create a cartoon series that would bring his vision to the small screen; what he came back with broke the animation superhero mould. Drama, action, romance, betrayal; these were just some of the aspects emphasised by this stellar show. This was a series that captured the feel of dramatic anime better than most other animated North American productions. It was a show that incorporated an assortment of mythological characters as well as several Shakespearean and other literary influences (which other animation has Macbeth as one of the main antagonists). Over it's short run it managed to build a huge tapestry of stories that build upon each other with each progressing episode. After a run of two years the show was cancelled in 1996; but for ten years a loyal fanbase has kept the property alive by organising annual conventions (called Gatherings). Now Greg Weisman in conjunction with Slave Labor Graphics, has restarted the franchise by writing comics set after the second season. Has anyone else been following this comic? Anyone who hasn't seen the show check out this trailer for the trade paperback volume 1. Gargoyles: Clan Building Vol. 1 Trailer I have to say that these comics amazingly capture the feel of the original series and progress the story brilliantly. Whether you've seen the original show or not I fully recommend these comics to anyone who appreciates good writing and storytelling. Also check out the season 1 and season 2 vol 1 DVDs |
I remember this show! I even had the action figures.
|
Have you had a chance to read the new comics? What do you think of them?
I remember the action figures aswell; in fact long before I had even seen the show my aunt bought me a Goliath figure for my birthday. It wasn't until years later that I actually sat down to watch the show. And it wasn't until years afterwards that I was able to sit down and watch and actually fully appreciate it. This show works on so many levels its unbelievable. |
Beast Wars was better.
|
I like Beast Wars.
The Starship Troopers cartoon did the same thing for animation and it was good, too. |
Yeah, I liked that too.
Heh, the Thinnies were hilarious. |
I think I had a video game for this waaaay back.
Well I had a game with a gargoyle as the main character, this was when I was like, to young to remember. |

Ah no, it was on the genesis or something. Although I do remember playing that game as well though.
|
Brooklyn was my fave. Brooklyn was the shit.
|
Mine too. Mainly due to his physiology- three claws on his wings like a pterosaur! Awesome!
I'm such a nerd. |
Oh God, I have a very strange Gargoyles memory. I used to have the action figures also when I was really young. One day I accidentally dropped one in the toilet...and I didn't flush yet. I was frustrated.

I've been watching this on YouTube. It's better than I remembered (I actually understand the plots now).
