Godspeed is one of my favourite bands. East Hastings is so beauitully haunting and post-apocolyptic. The album its from is one of my all time favorites.

Also OANST never answered my question, so I guess I'll take that as a no. damn.

I finally bought Centipede Hz. I liked it, but I'll need to listen to it a few more times before I can say too much. It hasn't swept me off my feet, but as a young composer I feel like there is a lot I can learn from the energy their songs have and apply that to a rage of genres.

In other news, I'm learning this for my Music Performance subject and uni audition, which will happen towards the end of next year.

I didn't like what I heard off Hz. Haven't checked out the full album yet, though.

Centipede Hz is a little off putting at first. Mostly because it was recorded live in studio, and sounds like a fucking cacophony. It's really hard at first to discern what the sounds you are hearing are, and they sort of did this on purpose. While it's not my favorite album from them, it still grew on me a lot, and I like it a lot better than Merriwether.

The white noise bleeps and bloops were the idea behind the album, weren't they? The way the noise ebbs and flows out through all of the songs is amazing. Musically it's nothing spectacular, but I just get so much energy radiating from it. It's definitely not the kind of thing I'd usually buy but it's different, interesting and inspirational to me.

Merriwether was so fantastic, though. I can't see Hz topping it.

I feel as if Hz is just a giant troll agains the people who loved the poppiness of Merriwether.

Hz has soul. It has energy. It's clear to me that a great deal of passion went into it and that shows even through the musically bland parts. It's the fundamental basis of anything that makes the album good.

I might buy Merriwether and Strawberry Jam at some point, just to mix up my usual listening a bit. The Age of Adz especially has really made me want more variety from my standard rotation of albums.

There is much good music made with the assistance of electronics. The only problem is that most of it is pure shit.

It's great to expand your horizons, as it can add lots of influence to your own playing/writing and can expand what you consider to be "normal" or orthodox in music.

I listened to this one for real (full way through) tonight for the first time. It really hit me.

Hey OANST, do you like Beulah? They're an Elephant 6 band and I think they're awesome.

I just noticed your question. Yeah, I like Beulah. April and I used to listen to The Coast Is Never Clear a lot, but I haven't listened to them in years.

@Steamer Holy shit that's a lott of FlyLo. To be honest I didn't like his stuff much at all until I heard it while stoned. Thought it was just noisy and annoying before that.

@OANST I've only heard the album I linked to (can't stop listening to it, actually) and a bit of their second one, which is pretty good but not as good as their debut, I think.

It's more like Merriwether was a giant troll for the people who loved the droniness of Feels, and the crunchy strangeness of Strawberry Jam. Centipede seems like a much more natural progression for them. And Merriwether is probably my least favorite AC album. Not because of poppiness, I actually disagree that the album was very poppy. I just found it to be very repetitive, which it was supposed to be. I get that. But it didn't speak to me the way that they're previous albums did, and Centipede Hz did again.

Maybe "accesibility" is the word I was looking for.

I've only heard, like, 3 full Animal Collective albums(not including EPs), but I still think Merriwether is a great album. It does get a tad repetetive, but I find their repetition kind of grows on you in a weird, psychedelic. Feels is still their best, though. At least out of the ones I've heard.

I like Merriwether. It's just my least favorite of their albums. It's like sex with a really pretty girl early in the morning. You know she hasn't brushed her teeth yet, but it's still awesome.

Worth it.

and I'm having a really hard time getting into Sung Tongs. It feels very scatter-brained at times. I know it's good, I'm just having difficulty really loving it like I do their later stuff.

I still need to check Strawberry Jam too, been putting that off too long.

Sung Tongs was the first album I ever owned by them. It was Feels that made me fall in love with them, though.

This is the video I saw that made me pick up the album:

Finally decided to check out some King Crimson stuff other than In the Court of the Crimson King. It's pretty groovey. Kind of like if Talking Heads were a prog rock group.
