I saw part of a new ballet adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland on BBC4 the other night. It was shit.
The choreography was a typical post-Nijinsky affair (as far as I could tell), the music sounded hackneyed and archaic, as if it was trying to be somewhere between Stravinsky and Debussy (both great composers, but I think it's time to progress in terms of creating new material), and the only modern element was the use of projections to create backgrounds and special effects.
I was also disappointed (but not surprised) that they decided to base their work off old material. I don't remember the last time I saw something actually original broadcast.
Needless to say, I turned it off after a while, since I felt I was wasting my time watching someone else waste theirs.
