Yeah, you can kind of gauge someone's skill. It is not all relative or just opinions. For example: A one armed man who has never played the bass guitar goes against the likes of flea or vooden. It is pretty safe to say that even on their worst days the latter aforementioned could whip the one armed guy's ass. Now, as for a certain Mr. Thompson being as good as a certain Mr. Hendrix could span a huge debated because both are skilled but play wiht totally differrent styles, sounds, and mentalities.

and another thing...usually bands try to play, you know, together, where as these guys just do their own thing, hitting random chords..it's all noise pollution.

I should have cleared that up, if i don't know you then i don't like you, but i already knew you. Also did'nt u say so what if they play good there music is'nt, i find it hard to believe a band that plays good intruments but sounds bad.

ok let me rephrase then, you said that "how can they sound bad if they play good instruments."
Keeping that in mind you should know that if you can play good with instruments then your music should sound mad.
So seemming that their music is aweful, therefore they cant play there instruments well.
