Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to the first official Fan Corner competition of 2011! It's fan-art time; get your pens, pencils, crayons, inks, chalks, natural tribal dyes, collections of oddly shaped driftwood and art materials in general together and get your right-brains
(get it right, Splat) switched to 'Odd'!
The theme for this, the second FC Oddworld Art Competition, is '
Moonlight'.
What you have to do:- Draw/paint/whatever a piece of Oddworld Fan-art based around the competition theme, Moonlight.
- Upload your creation to an image-hosting website such as imageshack (because you can't put attachments in PMs), put the link in a PM and send it to me, Splat, before the deadline stated below.
- Sit back and wait for the results!
Anonymity is awesome!
The submissions will be marked by a selection of OWF members as chosen by myself, and to prevent any accidental bias we don't want the judges to know who [drew/painted/etcetera] what. To this end...
- Do not upload your picture to Deviant Art, Oddworld Forums or anywhere else where it could easily be traced to you. You can put it on dA or wherever you want after the competition has been judged.
- Don't post your picture on the forums or describe it or show it to anyone from the forums until after the results have been announced.
- Don't use characters or events you have already described or shown on OWF, either in art or fiction.
Other Rules:- You must use official Oddworld species that have appeared in-game. So no unused creatures from the Art Book or fan-species. You may use creatures from any Oddworld game.
- You must create your picture specifically for this competition; do not submit anything that you have posted on the internet before.
- You must make some sort of use of the Moonlight theme, no matter how abstract.
- You can use any medium for your picture (pencil, digital drawing, whatever), but you may not directly copy or trace any OWI art, or manipulate an existing picture (other than stock textures). It must be entirely your own work.
Finally, you will be judged on five categories and given marks out of ten on each:
- Quality of Art: Specifically how good your art is, how much effort you put in and so on. This topic is pretty open depending on the art style you choose and it'll be up to each judge to decide how to rate your work, but generally time and effort show.
- Depiction: How well you depict Oddworld's creatures and environments.
- Oddness: How well does your picture capture the themes of the Oddworld series, and how well does it reflect Oddworld's atmosphere?
- Originality: Come on, anyone can do a rendition of the scene from the end of AE with the mudokons holding their hands up to the moon. Really give some thought to how you can translate the theme, and do something that'll surprise (and impress) us!
- Use of Theme: How clever, creative and successful is your use of the competition theme, Moonlight? (And how many excuses can I find to repeat that word in this post?)
The closing date for the competition is
April the first. Your entries must be in
before this date.
When the entries have been judged and the results collected, the pictures, the results and any comments the judges wanted to leave will be posted in a results thread in Fan Corner. The winner will have their name posted in the Fan Corner Hall of Awesome in the '
Useful Fan Corner Links' thread, and will win bragging rites until next year's competition.
So time is ticking! Get moving!
