The Wolfman. It was okay.
I found it funny how involved his transformation process was only to end up looking like a guy in a cheap costume. All the complex, CG rendering seemed for nought when you saw the final result.

Other than that, my only major complaints are the uneven pacing and the forgettable performances given by the cast, despite consisting largely of big name actors. Hugo Weaving was pretty much just Elrond with muttonchops. It gets points however for being bloodier than I expected, and for pulling something together after a serious clusterfuck of a post-production.

Dad recommended The Fourth Kind. I've heard mixed reviews, and his taste in films is pretty hit and miss. I'll give it a try and get back to you.

The third season was so weak compared to the second.

My eldest nephew used to fucking love this programme. I can remember one Christmas, I got him the VHS tape, and he didn't stop watching it all day. I never got chance to watch my copy of Spinal Tap that day, which I was slightly narked about.

I just finally got round to watching Ponyo.

Miyazaki does it again. I love the man so much. He's pretty much my favourite director, animation or otherwise.
The fact that Miyazaki will probably be six feet under long before Pixar actually decides to work with him is a goddamn tragedy.

Why won't Pixar work with him? Disney is his biggest affiliate over here.

The better question is why would he come to Pixar when he has his own studio and seems to be quite happy making films his own way.

I have to say that, in my opinon, a CGI Miyazaki film would lack the magic of his traditionally animated films.

Pretty much this, most of the wonder of his films resides inside the hand-drawn stuff. It's very fluid and pretty.

I also think that it's a shame that hand-drawn cartoons are becoming so rare too.

Exactly. Miyazaki is quite possibly the last, true, big-budgeted cartoonist out there that hasn't just resorted to CG. Pixar is great and everything, but Miyazaki putting down the pencil and picking up the mouse would pretty much validate the finality that hand-drawn animation is dead.

It's an upcoming game made by the guys who made Dr. Layton, but it is entirely animated by Studio Ghibli. Looks pretty cool.

Oh and did you guys here about that 3D, CGI remake of Watership Down with Hugh Jackman as a voice actor? Yeah there really is no such thing as god.

I'm surprised Ralph Bakshi hasn't been mentioned.

That Ghibli videogame's got some great environments. The creature/character design is pretty meh though. Looks like Pokemon.

I actually find their animation kind of off-putting, something about it. Dunno. Their animation (I'm strictly speaking about their cel animation and not the stop-motion) had that trademark anime stiffness due to the japanese animators they worked with on almost everything they made.

Thundercats, HOOOOOOOO!

As to you, Joe, I much prefer Down To Goblin Town...
At least it's actually based on lyrics written by Tolkien.

Oh Rankin/Bass made this? I taped this off TV one year and watch it every Christmas.

This is the kind of Rankin/Bass animation I like, I hate their stop motion stuff like Jack Frost and all that.
