I've just joined and I've worked out how Camtool.exe works!
Only saying this because i could tell people how to do it if they don't know.

Edit: oops it crashed after loading
Edit: Ok this is how you do it... Open command prompt then use the cd command to go to where you have Camtool and stuff type
Camtool.exe -r (Whatever the bitmaps you want in the game's called).bmp (Which screen you want to replace).CAM

Well I'll try but i don't think I'll be able to, they're mostly done in cmd. But using the README I might find just the command to do so. If I do I'll be sure to tell what it is.

Ps: It took me a long time figuring the Camtool command. I did just try different ways.

Edit: Using Pauls Extract program I've ripped BAN JOY BND's and a VH file for each LVL file. I might just be able to hex edit them with PSPad. I think I've found the sprites because in AO the sprites were in BAN file format. BTW pauls Extract file only uses the extract command so it's quite simple.

Lol Basically I've found some sprite files in AE however I haven't yet figured how to switch them from being BAN to BMP so you might be able to edit them! I won't hex edit them just yet as I might corrupt the game's .LVL files! Also, I am making -ddcheat vids and I might damage the .SAV file. I will still work on it though.

I think I might have to create one of those cmd shortcut commands. such as *BAN* *BMP* I think this might work but I'm not sure because *BAN* Means all BAN file types. *BMP* Means change all BANs to BMPs. Unless I've put the * in the wrong place lol!
Edit: I'm going to check I've put * in the right place!!!
Edit: Ooops! The shortcut must be cmd /c *ren *.ban *.bmp See if that works LOL!

Nice idea I might try that, pehaps now I could try that cmd command shortcut. Very handy things shortcuts LOL. I'll post in new stuff when I figured them out!

Edit: No I've just tried the shortcut cmd file however it does a quick flicker and then nothing however I could try Hex-Editing the file.

Edit: After Hex Editing I made Mudokons unable to "explode" into little pieces just by changing Anim to End! LOL

I am actually getting excited.

When people rip the games, it creates opportunities for fans to create fan games, and also provides the fans that don't make games with some wonderful extras to have in the absence of much given to us by OWI in the last couple of years.

I figured that you can do it too with SLIGZ.ban. It glitches though!
Edit: If you hex edit a .CAM file it contains total gibberish so I wouldn't bother trying.
Edit: BAN files can be opened in Movie Maker!!! If you have the right codec. If I get that codec I might be able to rip the sprite files from their original animation!

OWI should of done what Core Design did with Tomb Raider. They released a level editor that you can manupulate so much that you could create a whole new game, not just Tomb Raider although it will run on the same engine.

LOL thanks I won't make any self applying comments there so... I probably will edit some later using PSPad. Though most files are written in nonsense. Although I found out that most (maybe all) have an english phrase at the beggining of each script. They are usually stuff like Anim, Text or some other stuff and they have End! at the bottom! I reckon that the Anim and stuff part tells the program what type the BAN or BND is.

Question

LOL I was thinking of what would happen if you would change a $ to a £ in one of the scripts it will probably glitch it but I thought it might do something quite cool. Like a secret. Not saying it will though. Also, I couldn't find any BAN or BND codecs, so that crosses Movie Maker off the list. It doesn't make any sense because after hex editing the file and finding Anim, I thought it would be an animation in which you could edit.

OK I've found out that if you switch a sprite such as ABEBLOW.BAN to another one like SLIGZ.BAN, it either bugs up and crashes or when you hit a mine you fall off the ledge and die. Mine usually crashes though. I used PSPad to switch them BTW.

Usually the game will lock up if you remove/replace animation files. Replacing screens with screens from other levels works quite well though (just the .cam file) and sometimes it retains some of that screens features (mudokons rescued/killed boards, anything that uses text).

If you replace files from the ps1 (demo was the one I knew how to find .lvl's for) version of the game and use them in the pc version surprisingly it works and the files are smaller, so you can replace all of the pc ones with ps1 ones and it'll be like 3 mb or something. I've also noticed that you can get Abe to have the really slow hop (demo hop) in the PC version and the roll from the demo in the pc version by switching some ban files around.

Might go back to editting it and trying it out later. Oh yeah also, it works vice versa, so you can put stuff from the pc version INTO the ps1 version. If you want to understand more or something just pm me.
