Meech could've been from 'mooch' with the 'O's replaced by 'E's...They were decribed as being like hyenas- Scavengers?.
About Aslik- interesting thing here...I remember reading about a foreign unit of money called an 'as'

when i first heard the name Aslik, i laughed my ass off. i just think its a reference to an ass licker, or someone who sux up.

alector said that blitz meant lightning or thunderbolt. i guess that blitzpacker could mean that it just packs a strong punch. anyone got anything better?

I'm not that good in English, so I use(d) dictionary.com to look the names up. When I tried to find Vykker I found a connection with viper. (same pronontiation). Viper here means mean, bad,... and that's exactly what the Vykkers are. Anybody who agrees or disagrees, or nows more?

btw, I don't know what Blitzpacker could mean.

In Abe's Oddysee at Rupture Farms different parts of the factories were called Zulags, eg, Zulag 1, Zulag 2, etc. I'd say Zulags are the Oddworldian equivalent to Gulags. Gulags are forced labor camps to hold political prisoners.

hey Syndey, thats interesting about the Zulag, Gulag connection. Different factories have different names for the sections of that factory. Bonewerks has "Annex" for example. I always liked that, particularly ther Bonewerks, since there's bone pwder all over the place. Its like some kind of a desert there, plus, the factory itself looks especially decrepit.

Hey, Niteowl, i remember "as" being an ancient type of coin, either Greek, or Roman, i dont remember. I highly doubt that "Aslick" is based on this. You never know though.

I'm bringing this older topic back up for 3 reasons:

1. I have (a little) time again to visit the forum
2. We didn't explain all the names yet (so please, help! )
3. A strange thing accured to me :

Last week, a friend said to me: " ...bla bla bla big cohones bla bla bla ..."
Immediately I tought off Big Kahonee Mudokons. I asked him what it meant and he told me 'big cohones' is Indian for 'having big balls' (like being a tuff guy, fearless,...). Is there somebody who knows more about 'big cohones', Big Kahonee's, and the connections between both?

Hello, Oddipus. Actually, the word cojones(pronounced cohones) is Spanish, and yes, its a slang for balls.

Kahonee, or Kahuna, is an hawaiian word for shaman. A big kahuna is the greatest spiritual leader of hawaiian culture, and it has nothing to do with big cojones(except that a big Kahuna has to be a guy with big cojones, )

OOPS, now you see how fast you can make a wrong explenation when you don't speak the right language or don't read the right books.

So, thanks for the right one!

There are some other names that aren't explained yet, so:

* Religious people?: HELP
* People who speak other languages? : HELP
* People who know their history?: HELP
* The few really smart people here : HELP
* ALF? : HELP
* People with lots of free time that can dig into informative books: HELP

well, 'Vykkers' sounds exactly like 'Vicars', but i don't think Lorne would be that disrespectful. anyway, Vykkers don't strike me as being the religious type...

It's an interesting notion, the connection between "Vykkers" and "vicars." I dont know too much about the vykkers, but from what has been said about them, they seem to play God, similar to some geneticists on earth. Lorne may saying something about cloning and science through the Vykkers, I would not be surprised.

Vykkers isn't pronounced like Vicars, but rather like the i sound in spike. Perhaps if it was spelt as Vykers it would make more sense, but that's the way it is.

Another thing I thought about the word Munch is that it might come from Munchausen Syndrome. It's a psychological condition in which someone pretends they are sick, or makes themselves sick to gain medical attention. We know that Munch has a broken leg from the bear trap, so he isn't making it up, but maybe the name is some kind of an allusion? It's pure speculation though.

Yes, but I thought the 'u' in Edvard's surname was pronounced like a double 'o'.

I went a tried to find somthing for Munch's first name (Latamire) and found that a latimeriais a species of almost extinct fish and Munch is a Gabbit which is an almost extint aquatic creature.
I also looked up the name Abe, just for the heck of it, and found it means the exalted father and Abe is kinda the the father of the modokens freedom.
So yeah, thats what I got. I really like the Aslik = arse lick thing!!!

i wonder if Abe has a last name?
