Sorry. I don't want to argue, but sometimes I forget whats spamming, and whats not. I'll remember from now on. Btw I don't watch the Simpsons, but I often watch Futurama. It's another cartoon by Matt Groening. Anyone ever heard of it?

it's on Adult Swim all the time, so ya, I watch it. Although the fact that theres no more new episodes is killing me. Matt should do more for just Adult Swim.

Grow up to be gay? Surely you mean grow up to be secure in his gayness. Sexuality is physically determined before birth. So nuts to any Christian Exoduser who claims gays are taking the wrong lifestyle.

Teachers have the uncanny ability to be knobs, I agree. Even in Norwich School, which I cherish as the best thing that ever happened to me, has its fair share. To be fair though, a lot of the time pupils are going to badmouth their teachers because teachers have to enforce things on their students that the typical child doesn't exactly relish. What I find is that it comes down to their attitudes. A certain music teacher of mine comes down hard on anyone who forgets their homework, and with every reason. However, he is actually a cock because of the whole attitude he takes with the culprits.

lol in the security of gayness????I think its only good cos we can make fun of him pretty mean though but he was an asshole. And not really about sex being determined before birth.I cant remember it two clear but it was a science thingy.Theres two big cell things and both are male.If the baby hasnt been born for longer than 8 months one of the cells turns female therefore making a girl not a middle-sex .

Sorry, Cyber-Slig, I meant sexuality is determined before birth. It's to do with the size of some part of the brain. There was an extensive study done on human brains, and much the same results have been concluded from similar experimentation with gay sheep.

Sex is determined at the moment of conception, as the sex chromosones from the two gametes fuse to determine whether the child is female (two X chromosones) or male (an X and a Y chromosone).

Well, what you say about the development of sexual organs is somewhat accurate, as the organ that either becomes male or female parts remains pretty neutral until the late development of the unborn baby, so don't flog yourself over it.

better than not getting an education and having to get a low-paying job cleaning cat's arses with your tongue. Or to paraphrase: sucking cat's bottoms

It's heading that way, yeah. As long as people keep the topic on schools, though, and not the collision between tongues and cats, it should be fine.

Have fun in high school, CS. Moving to my own high school, Norwich School, was the best thing that ever happened to me, and I have everything about myself I'm happy with today to be grateful for. In a few weeks I'll still be there but in the integrated 6th form college, which will be a big change in many ways. For one thing the 6th form is co-ed, whereas the main school is boys only. Also, judging from my recent actions in a mass MSN convo, people are gonna be seeing a different side of me. A good coincidence, maybe. I hope so...

You're coming out?? :P (If you actually are... kudos man)

Em school?

Big, noisy, dirty, filled with stupid people!

I was in the top ability set... my friends and I were like soooo different from the rest of our year group... we could write our own names!

Co-ed! Its great isn't it? Sure your kid may be bright and tallented but the other two thousand kids who are the polar opposite waste so much of the teacher's time that they haven't the energy to teach the kids who'll actually listen and learn!

Thanks CB. I think it's inevitable that I will, if I haven't already sent rumours around the year in said MSN conversation.

I spent eight years at state school, and even though there were obviously those time-wasters, it was only first and middle schools, so I escaped the apparent horrors of state high schools. Norwich School is great. It's not uncool to be smart, and while the boffins obviously have fun made out of them, it's really not as bad as it is other places. The only real fights break out between the twats. Oh, and there are a fair share of those.

Bloomin 'eck a gay friend of mine always jokes that my gay-dar is better than his... my comment was meant as a joke initially with the extra bit just in case it was taken the wrong way...

But like I said congrats man... you must have an "outing party" they're great.. any excuse for a good old knees up.

State secondary schools are horrendous and getting worse... as a Socialist and teacher in that sector myself i shouldn't say this but my kids (if/when i have any) will go private from the age of 11!

Bring back the old Grammar and Secondary Modern system I say!

In the article it said the guy was a teacher at Victor Valley Community College. That's the local college where I live. I've been going there for about three years. Hmmm, small world.

Hadn't thought about that... Sounds like a good idea.

Tee hee hee, let's see what you look like, Cyber-Slig. I have to wear a blazer, and for the last four years it was a beautiful royal blue. I'm not ashamed of it or anything, but we get to wear navy next year, woo!

Come to think of it, there are a couple of friends I wouldn't mind getting into an alcohol-addled susceptibility. Worryingly, the more I think about it, the more I'm attracted to the idea.

Taking the topic back to schools, BBC News was today talking about the 11+ exams - oh, I'm sorry, I mean SATs - and it seems that once again standards have betrayed government targets, and once again we are promised education in the U.K. will be transformed from a great system to an outstanding system (the actual adjectives used fail me). I don't know what great system they're talking about:

When I was in middle school and my parents first suggested the idea of me going to Norwich School to my teachers, they apparently were upset. See, I was too naive to realise it at the time, but my intelligence was being used to help more disruptive and slower pupils. Fine enough, but for one thing I was given no consultation on this strategy, and for another thing it would have vastly hindered my own progress if I'd have stayed on in state high school. So instead of setting apart those that need more help for remedial lessons, let's integrate everyone and end up with a mediocre but acceptable pupil population. That's the great system we have. It's lucky, in many ways, that natural youth groupings segregate according to intelligence - at least in an environment where everyone's a Townie.

You're right Max...

There are no failures or great successes in education any more!

Kids get certificates and hard cash just for turning up!!!!! Even college kids get EMA money for turning up when... stop me if I'm wrong... staying on for further education... A levels NVQ's etc... should be a choice not a requirement and therefore they should want and need to attend without a "bribe"... thats how it was in my day!

As Aristotle suggested in society there are gold, silver and bronze children (members of society) Education should fit each... gold should be pushed to attain highly in academic regions... these should be and were modern day Graduates and Post Grads with qualifications from respectable institutes, who study for the pursute and enjoyment of knowledge and continue to do so throughout their lives, Scientists, Designers, Researchers, Lecturers... silver are the academic professionals teachers, doctors, nurses, council workers, managers, retailers... bronze are the skilled workers... construction workers, labourers, shop assistants etc...

Today we have a plethera of pseudo gold and silver and hardly any bronze... the focus has moved from educating the individual to the level that they can attain to forcing each group to strive to become a gold or silver mamber of society pulling down the chances of success for the real gold kids by flooding the market with people with A levels and degrees when years ago perhaps rightly they would be educated to 16 and got themselves a trade!

they are making a mockery out of attainment... the vast numbers of graduates leaving "Universities" (I use "" as most are one time poly-techniques... not a REAL uni with heritage and world standing!) means that for the most menial of jobs a degree will become a standard qualification... McDonalds will filter out their applicants as those with or without a higher ed qualification!!!

Thats the future as I see it and I don't like it!
