I've never fully understood matyrdom.

While I understand it when it is used to bring about a change in a wrong or unjustice system, I don't get why people become matyrs to resist a change.

Your beliefs are something that no one can change. Not you, nor Hobo, nor God could change my beliefs. No one can threaten to stab my thoughts with a knife, or mug them.

My body, however, can be broken easily. Much more easily than something that doesn't physically...
