The world really friggin scares me

Be careful when you get involved in a protest. The fucking American police may actually blast your ears off!

There is no freedom of speech.

Seriously.. If you ever see a police van, with a weird sound device on top, you run.
Sound weapons can cause so much pain that they can incapacitate you. But they can also cause permanent damage to either your ears or body.

If you get at least 90 yard away from the van, I believe you shouldn't be in grave danger... Also bring ear plugs and such to counter sonic weapons.

Sonic weapons are a fucking military weapon. They have no place with normal citizens.
I really fear that the future will bring some really bad, where we're in constant fear of expressing myself.


I may also be overreacting, but I'm really friggin scared.

I'm relatively certain that (good) police never start bringing out weaponry, lethal or not, until protesters start getting violent.

Cops in the US have a long history of using excessive unnecessary force. They've certainly taken a creative turn with this unwelcome change from the usual batons, tasers, and tear gas.
I think it was just last year that a local cop got in hot water for shooting a kid dead on St. Patrick's Day because he was behaving belligerently while drunk.

In seattle a couple of weeks ago someone video taped the boys in blue literally stomping on some mexican guy while he was laying on the ground. Motionless. One said, 'I'm going to stomp the mexican piss right out of you!'

I lol'd. What other kind of piss would he have?

Crazy thing is that something like 12 seattle cops have been murdered in the past year. So they're kinda twitchy now.

Better a sound cannon than bullets. I support any form of non-lethal force as long as it's properly regulated.

Even if they affect innocent people? I really think its standpoints like these that damage us, if people allow innocents to get hurt in order to keep.. order.

These sound cannons aren't really that innocent. They can permanently damage your hearing, and some of the more advanced ones can do worse than that.

You're aware that guns can damage a persons hearing as well, right? Stun guns and the like can cause nerve damage, pepper spray can cause a whole series of respiratory problems, etc. There really is no peaceful solution.

One bad apple and all that.

The sound cannon actually seems like the least violent way to disperse unwanted protesters. Better than police dogs and pressure hoses.

You know, driving apart protestors is not done because you can't express your opinion, but because some of those fuckwits tend to get violent in expressing that opinion. When one gets violent, two get violent and before you know it you have a riot.

This is a pretty good solution. It won't damage your hearing at all if you just get the hell out of there like you're supposed to. If you hang around, climb on the van and plant your ear on the speaker then well... yeah you'll be bleeding out every orifice.

BTW, protesters at the G20 summit are among the biggest idiots out there. 99% of the time they are fine with pointing out everything they are doing wrong but when you ask anyone of them how they would change it you get bullshit answers.

Yeah. G20 was a load of horse shit. I didn't see the police using any force like that on the Tibettan protestors.
