Don't you hate it when people post obnoxious text at the top of their blog and you have to scroll past it every time you want to read what they've posted? Man, I really hate that.

New Classic Horror (potential webcomic by me?)

The other day I got the urge to randomly begin drawing classic figures from horror fiction and film in the style of my comics for Mod Survivor Island.

Several hours tinkering gave me...

(This was supposed to show the picture embedded, but it doesn't seem to be working)

I've considered making a comic with these guys, though I haven't had many ideas for it as of yet.

I'd already drawn Death facing forward for the finale of MSI, so first thing I did was draw his back and sides.
Then I did Frankenstein's Monster. Having read Frankenstein a while ago I wanted to make the character lean more towards its depiction in the book rather than in the later films, but ended up swaying towards the film more, even putting a bolt on his head (but only one, and not on his neck like in the films!) I guess a bit of Herman Munster wormed into his clothing.
Then I did Victor Frankenstein himself, and completely went towards the film version, since in the novel he didn't even live to old age. I managed to resist giving him a manic grin however.
Then I did the invisible man since he was rather eay, being commonly depicted with a trench-coat and dark glasses. If I did make this into a comic I imagine he'd walk around without the glasses a fair bit.
Next came the Mummy, cus he (or is it she?) was fairly simple.
Then came the generic Zombie (call him Bub if you must since that's the only zombie I know of having a name after zombification) who was the second-most difficult. Torn clothes are a pain, and all the damaged bits of its anatomy caused difficulty. I might lessen the damage to its left arm later on since it's currently immovable, while its right arm has no fingers.

After a break I did Dracula. I really want to read Dracula now, so I might go and find it on the internet in a couple of days (books like Frankenstein and Dracula have had their copyrights expire so they're free to publish online). I like how his clothes turned out, the sot of formal-gothic things, Edwardian shirt (might be making that up) and the coat with bat-wing arms. His fangs don't show up against his skin though, so I had to give him the fim-hairstyle to make him identifiable. I saw a photo of him with stuck-out ears; son't know if that was make-up or the actor playing him, but I incorporated it anyway.

Finally did the Wolfman, who was really the hardest. First had to bash his face into shape so facing forward you could tell he had a bulging muzzle, then had all the hair, the chest, more torn clothing, even more torn clothing, those feet which took a lot of bashing, his bare legs which were worse than the feet and the hands which stand as the bits I'm least satisfied with, though it took at least three attempts to get them where they are now.
And then I had to draw his back and sides!
However, I am satisfied with the finished result. I'll probably draw him un-transformed if I make this comic (he's a werewolf, for those who don't know).

I would like one or two more characters to complete the cast, though I can't think of any more iconic humanoid horror monsters. If anyone has any ideas feel free to post them here. I considered the Phantom of the Opera but of course he wasn't really dead to begin with, which is sort of cheating.
If I make this comic (and I'm not promising 'cus I don;t have any solid ideas for it yet) then I'm seeing a castle for a setting. Death wouldn't be involved much 'cus he's not such a movie-star as the others.

If you have any character ideas let me know. I hope my limited art skills have allowed you some enjoyment.

"A vast stillness enveloped me, as though all the world were asleep or dead - only broken by the low panting as of some animal close to me. I felt a warm rasping at my throat, then came a consciousness of the awful truth which chilled me to the heart and sent the blood surging up through my brain. Some great animal was lying on me and now licking my throat. I feared to stir, for some instinct of prudence bade me lie still; but the brute seemed to realize that there was now some change in me, for it raised its head. Through my eyelashes I saw above me the two great flaming eyes of a gigantic wolf. Its sharp white teeth gleamed in the gaping red mouth, and I could feel its hot breath fierce and acrid upon me."

I say The Headless Horseman and Satan, you could still include Erik and make the fact that he isn't dead a running joke.

I shall continue Wing's ideas. I don't really want to go in the God/Satan direction because then it becomes a sort of divine battle, and a ghost would involve constant recolouring for every background.
But thankee anyway
