So it's two beers a day every single day? That's...Eh. It's not horrible, but it's not fantastic. What size are the beers? Standard 12oz cans, tall cans, what? Also, what's the alcohol volume? If she's drinking malt liquor, yeah, not so great.

I also don't think drinking a lot of alcohol is a problem(except health wise).... But the reasons for doing so.
And it just seems so weird coming from my mom. She didn't use to do this, and I'm really scared it might develop.

Her ex was even worse. Every time I'd visit them, he'd smoke and drink.. Like drink a whole fucking lot. I'd always hear the sound of opening a can.
Then he'd drink to the point of talking to himself and babbling about really weird stuff.

Like one time, when I spent the nightm I heard him rant in the kitchen at about 4 am about how the whole Aarhus needs to die and no one will ever smile again, just because earlier that day, I had joking argued that people perhaps smile to each other out of obligation. He banged the table and really furiously ranted to himself.

I really don't understand why my mom kept him for so long. But then again, there are probably things about the relationship that I don't understand.

My dad drinks beer like water, he goes through at least four or five cans a day. But he's always been that way, and he's no lightweight. It takes somewhere in the vicinity of ten beers to get him buzzed.

You're more concerned about your mom's change in behavior, and not necessarily what the behavior is. The only thing a few beers a day will do is slap on the pounds. It's not a healthy habit, but it won't kill her.

Based on what you've told me privately, I think just talking to her now and again and letting her vent will do wonders. If she feels someone cares about her, then she'll feel less burdened.
