Well, that article doesn't really have anything to do with Lorne Lanning. It was just about Rubin enforcing his idea that game developers should be given more credit and more power. He's saying that game publishers (in particular American ones) don't give the developers enough credit and so people are more likely to let someone like Tara Reid into a video game convention, rather than the actual development team of the game on display.

That sentence at the end "If the business gets to that point, then maybe Tara Reid will have problems getting into parties Jason Rubin, Ted Price, and Lorne Lanning are rocking" is just saying that if developers are given more credit and are recognised and achknowledged more, then celebrities won't be the all important figures they are.

But I can see what you are saying. Using Lorne Lanning in that sentence seems to suggest that he is not a huge, beloved figure in the world of video games. It is true, however that many people who play games, don't bother to look at the credits and see who did what and who made what etc. I asked a few friends about who was the head of certain game companies... and most of them didn't know.

Poor poor game developers... they toil away for our entertainment and get nothing.

I never like to know too much about companies. I don't know which company made/produced half the best and most famous films/games, and I dont have a clue who acts in what etc, they're just the characters in a story I like to watch/play, not some actor who's trying to increase his reputation by playing a respectable role...

I like to pay attention to people behind the scenes, especially like huge achievements in the industry, like Peter Jackson and his incredible team for LOTR.

I do agree that developers need more respect. Games are growing in popularity, and once Lorne and OWI masters the integration of Movies and Games into one incredible product, it'll send a shockwave that'll change the gaming world forever.

Doesn't it seem a bit crass to mention actual game developers in the sentence, especially ones who have helped sell millions of videgames and have been very enthusiastic about your products? It counterproductive, too, with Lorne gearing up to promote the new super-sweet game and giving a big speech at E3 in less than 2 months. How does it look when some bigwig like Rubin is fading on people who were instrumental in the sale of millions of videogames in favor of some airheaded bimbo who has been in nothing but lousy lowbrow movies. She isn't a celebrity, she's a hack skating by on the fact that she has nice rack

Yeah, but he's actually calling guys out here and he doesn't seem to be doing anything to change the situation. He also made the mistake of naming people in the statement. It is a cever knock on these guys who aren't household names but still do great jobs. In effect he is saying that these guys don't rock parties, are not all that powerful, and deserve respect but that nobody, least of all me, will give them. It isn't a compliment, but rather a backhanded compliment. How would you like it if you worked hard for a company and gave them your whole-hearted support only to be bad-mouthed to the press?

Based on this show I saw on the X-box, Lorne Lanning has a lot of respect (and a cool house). I think that as long as a lot of people are buying the Oddworld games, he'll get all the respect he needs.

I'm totally going to laugh right in the faces of these arrogant bastards that talk trash about OWI when Stranger goes platinum and sells twice as many units as any other Oddworld game in a fraction of the time.
Oddguy, a gaming mag( EGM, I think) did a tongue in cheek interview with Lorne in his house to spoof MTV Cribs.

Oddworld I red the Max's post. I was shocked..

http://www.oddworldforums.net/showthread.php?t=9852
:
Three new articles on the subject of OWI's search for a new publisher. Slashdot links the story to the allegedly-lucrative Xbox-exclusivity deal and the disappointment of Munch's Oddysee, as well as linking to Depths of Oddworld (congratulations, Hayley!) and Penny-Arcade (I'm sure not all of you have seen the two Oddworld strips they've made). Gamesindustry does much the same, except it also explains the now popular term 'money hat', coined by Penny-Arcade to describe the deal.
I red the Max's post. I was shocked..
.....MS was NOT enough to respect LL. So LL HATEs MS.

Yeah, atusiya@, it seems you guessed Microsoft didn't respect Oddworld or Lorne before the rest of us found out! Although, to be fair, we don't know quite why their relationship has broken down.

Friggin' Micro$oft. Isn't it bad enough that they run a monopoly, create crap code, and rip people off? If I was LL I would have flipped 'em the bird, too. Well, this will just probably end up making OWI money because they're out of a bad deal with M$.

Except that it has been implied that it was a good deal with Microsoft, in terms of funding for games.

Hehe. Actually, it was described as a lucrative deal for Lorne Lanning and Sherry McKenna Though, I'd believe they spent what ever they did receive on the development of Oddworld.

Yeah right. Hamfisted suits from M$ forced OWI to rush Munch's Oddysee. I'd rather that it takes the company a little longer to create amind-blowing experience rather than merely create a great game.

Nate, you obviously never read Penny Arcade at the time, which is, as far as I can recall, the only place to report on the rumour. Alcar is just being aloof again.

My quote did not mention that I was drawing sources from more than one place

But I'm sure Penny Arcade wasn't the only place claiming it was a lucrative deal. I'm sure there were quite a few magazines or sites eager to play upon the irony of Oddworld teaming up with a multi-billion dollar corporation and earning heaps of moolah.

Not that I was implying they kept the money for themselves, or earnt an incredible amount. I'm sure they injected it into Oddworld Inhabitants.

That's even assuming a money hat existed. Rumours have a horrible way of not only evolving, but suddenly appearing from nowhere. Or incredibly shady and above-all wrong sources, at least.
