Vido game obsessions!

What were your video game obsessions up until you were introduced to Oddworld?

For me I can remember way back in the days of Nintendo that I always play Mario Bros 1, 2, and 3 almost every day and then Super Mario World for SNES

But then after Mario came Mega Man and that lasted for several years.
and followed Mega Man X.

Then after that came Super Metroid and my fascination in other worlds and such aboutthe time I started getting into doing art work. I was in the Fifth grade then. I remember playing Super Metroid every day until I found everything and found all E tanks and the Reserves. I conqured that game within Two months. and afterwords I was hooked. I would just play streight through and not get killed.

And then I got sick of Metroid and went to Donkey Kong Country for some stupid reason. I guess it was my craveing for adventure type puzzle games. And then it grew out of me and there was a time I just dident have a certain game crave like I did before. But I knew at this point my fav kind of video games were action adventure puzzle solveing games that lasted almost an entire day to beat. I just was so hooked with those kinds of games and still am. When 97 roled around and I got hooked with Oddworld and still going strong today I now know action adventure puzzle solveing games is my kind of game.

What was your game crave history all the way up to Oddworld? I know you have that paticular game crave that keeps you playing over and over again. Please do share your history.

Video game obsessions?

Back in the days of SNES, there was Super Mario All Stars and Super Mario World. gaming at its finest. Then Playstation had to come along with all of its fancy gameplay and lure me into the depths of Spyro. Which I strangely didn't beat until years later. I still couldn't figure out what I was doing with the charge glide forever.

I was also captivated at a point by Pokemon. Woohoo! About a year ago I took along my gameboy on a car trip, looked it up a bit and realized how freaking complicated some aspects of the game were, and how utterly crappy I'd been playing. If I'd gone onto any of the online emulators, I would've gotten the shit kicked out of me.

Also, I was sucked into The Sims for a good while. And resucked in by most expansions, though I never got Superstar+. playing the game legitimately was quite fun, actually.

Now, to my utter horror, I've been captivated by the likes of Morrowind. Entirely addicting. There must be something wrong with myself.

I used to play lots of Super NES at my local recreation center back in the day. They had four Super NES's, and I'd go early in the morning around summer time, play most of the day(Not just VG's mind you. I played Pool, Ping-Pong, Table Hockey..etc) then head back home before dinner. I played all the Donkey Kong's and Mario's. I also played a lot of Killer Instinct and F-Zero. Recently, I got a used SNES off Amazon.com because I missed the old 2D style. That's another reason I loved OW. Sometime classic 2D is so soothing. Anyway, enough of my ranting. On with the thread!

Back when Pokemon first came out, I really got into the game. Not so much the cards... or the merchandise... or the crappy "anime," but the game was an excellent RPG. Then they kept trying to re-hash it, and the game became trite and boring.

After that (In about the 8th grade, I believe) I started playing Jet Grind Radio for the Dreamcast. That was just about the pinnacle of video game obsession for me. It got to the point where I would come home from school everyday and beat the game AT LEAST once; I knew how to get through the levels so quickly, it only took me an hour, two hours at the very most, to beat JGR. I earned all the secret characters, too. Noise Tank was the shit.

Between Pokemon and JGR, there was FF7. I got to Sephiroth's cave and the game deleted itself. Joy. But a few summers ago (before I had a job) I spent a good deal of time working through the game the right way... raising my characters, getting all the magic, beating those nasty weapon thingies, etc.

Halo. Legendary. End of story.

More recently, The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind has been as close to an obsession as I can get these days. Of course, with a job, girlfriend, and a good deal of homework, it's been getting harder and harder to poor in those 6 hour game days. I'll get 1 hour here or 30 minutes there, but it's enough to keep me interested.

And Xbox Live. Gotta love Live!

Great game, isn't it? I play(ed) it too!

Anywayz, I used to have this old NES, with Mario Bros. 2, and Kirby's Adventure. Great games, I bought more and more, till I got Captain Skyhawk! That game got me hooked! I also had Top Gun, Mario Bros. 3, Kabuki; Quantum Fighter, Tom and Jerry and much more.

Then came my Gameboy. Yay, I was totally absorbed by Legend of Zelda, Links Awakening. I also got Pokemon (shame, shame)

Then I hot my (now crappy) PC, and mostly played Starcraft and Rollercoaster Tycoon on it. I was pretty good in SC, though...

But then came this demo disk I borrowed from a friend. One of the games on it was Abe's Oddysse...

I totally ignored it for a month, playing games like Duke Nukem 3d, Doom etc.

One day, I thought, well lets try it...

And so came the day I became a fan of the Oddworldian World.

With the arrival of the Xbox, my days were filled with Munch's Oddysse and Halo. Still are, though.
But I do play other games, such as Project Gotham Racing 2, Morrowind, and Halo.

I'd have to say the Donkey Kong and Mario games were my obsessions back in the day. I still play Donkey Kong 2 every once in a while...

I remember the good ol' days when we didn't have all this new-fangled high tech gadgetry. My gaming history started with SNES and Atari, i loved Duck Hunt, Mario Bros, DK, Centipede, Pakman, etc. I moved on to more advanced gaming as usual with my computer, Dreamcast, and PS2 with a plethera of adventure games such as Rayman, Skullmonkeys, AO/AE, all the Crash Bandicoots, etc. Then of course came FF, i liked the first few FFs i personally thought they were the best, and i also became attached to the Metal Gear Solids--pure gold. Then came Xbox and Ps2. Xbox was first with me, got it for x-mas with a few games including MO and Halo of course. Eventually i started building my xbox collection with a shitload of games and DVDs. I got my ps2 the following crimbo with games and RPGs like .Hack. Recently I've been working on something i call the project A.P.O.C. [All Platforms On Connections] where i plan to purchase as many game systems as possible and hook them all up to one big hardrive on multiple monitors, so far my progress has gone along smoothly. Further game systems to come will obviously be added to this project. well, that's it...

It probablys started long ago with playing old SNES games, such as Donkey Kong country, and some other games. Then it moved into playing Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time on Nintendo 64, along with Goldeneye, Rogue Squadron, Perfect Dark, etc.

On playstation, it was Abes Oddysee, and Abes Exoddus, along with Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, RE 3, etc. All the Syphon Filter games, and some others I probably am forgetting.

My most recent were when I got Xbox, Halo was probably the biggest one out of all of these, I got it the day xbox came out, along with Munch (which I also played a lot too). After I beat it on the four difficulty levels, I continued to play multiplayer with friends and such or with my brother almost every day for basically two years, also playing at Lan parties, etc. (beating all my friends except for MC ). I also have really enjoyed Splinter Cell on Xbox, Lord of the Rings, the Return of the King, and I also still am playing Halo (not as much anymore), and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic a lot too.

I'll list the pc games I used to play a lot too later.

I never really had any game obsessions before Oddworld. I guess that's why Oddworld always stands out so much for me... because it was the first game to ever have such an impact on me. It also got me interested in console games again [I had moved out of playing games for many years, except for a few PC games that I bought/rented].

Sure I had games that I enjoyed a lot ... but nothing more than playing them. I had no interest in developing theories, or expanding on the game in any such way. I didn't talk about them to my friends or anything like that when I was in school [we didn't have the internet when I was in school]. But I did enjoy the Mario series and I also loved two games called Solstice [on the NES] and it's sequel Equinox [on the SNES].

Of course ... there is now Oddworld ... which always remains as my special video game obsession, for the reasons mentioned. I don't think I could ever get out of it. And my other obsession which is the Final Fantasy series [and particularly Sephiroth from FFVII]. It works out really well that I have two obsessions. Because for the times that Oddworld news is quiet and the time between games ... there is always FF news or games to fill in the time. So it provides me with a great balance. I have been lucky so far that the release dates have always been different. It might be quite awkward if the two release at once ... particularly if that release happens to involve anything relating to sequels of FFVII ... I will have a hard time choosing the priority because of Sephy!!!

Tropico. I can't reisist being an evil dictator and unleashing my foul army of death (Ok, fine 4 guards) apon all who oppose me.

Halo- Just getting over it, it's still got the best multiplayer out there.

Timesplitters 2: On a par with Halo

JSRF: Just damn fun......

Project Gotham Racing 2: My whole family's addicted to this one...

Crash Bandicoot Series: Same as above.

For about two years the sims was still quite addicting, and I downloaded a bunch of cool stuff to add into the game. I might actually start playing it again though.

I also enjoyed a lot Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds/the clone wars expansion, Grim Fandango (just a really great game), and also Phaoroh, and some other games I'll mention later when they come to mind.
