Question Group Memberships?

This new feature is intriguing... although I know nothing about it. Could one of the more learned forumites indulge the rest of us on the details?

The only reason I ask is because it's high time we created a more organized Xbox Live community. It would be great to have one of these "groups" categorizing who has a tag, and what Live games people like to play. Hell, we could get some casual OWF Live sessions or maybe even a tournament up and running! Feedback?

Group Membership is basically being able to add yourself to an additional usergroup. Which usually allows you to gain extra features, such as a greater PM total, etc.

We can even assign group leaders to moderate the group But I don't know how you'd incorporate it into your idea. One idea though, is having member reach for a 'higher' usergroup, where they get extra permissions, but then that leads to the argument of the forum not being equal.

I wondered what groups were too ... thanks for clearing that up. I guess it's like some forums have clans. Like forums that are very big on RP battling ... they have clans [like groups I guess] so that they battle each other. I've seen a hack for vb2 that allows people to be listed in a group ... so I'm guessing this is the official version of it.

I guess putting that concept into SeaRex's idea ... we could create an Xbox Live usergroup which people need to "apply" to join. A group leader could approve the applications [hopefully a group leader can do it, otherwise it means me or Peter have to do it]. A forum could be created for the group to talk about the games they have and to arrange tournaments, etc. The forum could possibly be viewable only by those who are members ... so that it remains organized and not interrupted by newbies, etc.

With what Peter said ... I also noticed there is stuff like auto-promtion, etc ... so you can be moved to a higher group on post count, etc. They have that in Invisionboard [which I use for Advent Children forums]. I use it to make it appear that someone is on a level [like you have in RP games], so my groups are named 1, 2, 3, etc. But I don't really like the idea of giving extra features to only certain people. Although it might be good to use at a low level to avoid problems with new members that might abuse things such as PMs, etc. For example, when you first join you get really limited features, so it's like a probation period ... and then you get to use full features after you have met specific criteria [post count, join date if possible, etc].

That's a really good idea

I'd love to see that implemented. All the new registrations would default to the 'basic' usergroup, which leaves the already registered non posters. But that's easily fixed with a SQL query.

Actually that would be a good idea too ... as it would give people the incentive to post and to come back. If they are inactive they lose their privledges. Or depending on what we decide for basic usergroup, if we want to be more extreme, could make another usergroup for inactive where you get nothing [like no PM, sigs, avatars, etc] ... although that might be really mean.

Ergh ... edit, you changed your post!!! Suggestion still stands though.

So maybe bigger sigs allowed and the like if you think a member has proved their worth?

I like the sound of that... Except I won't be benifitting from it as I post nowt but crap

Ah, well thanks for the info.

If you guys ever decide to start an Xbox Live Group type thingy, I would be glad to organize it.
