Yea mann we got power back here in Akron and Cleveland too. That was one hell of a blackout. I can tell you though it will go down in American history as the Great Blackout of the 21st centary. Think about it our children's children will be reading about these things in history books. From New York all the way to Detroit and even into Canada.

At first I thought Terrorist and that they were going to nuke us but then I saw the news when we got our power back. I don't know but I wounder if Chicago was affected by it too.

I don't think your children's children will really care. It's just a black-out.

I watched a lot of coverage of the blackout on the news, but just like any story with the news, they overplay it and I don't really care anymore. I phrased that wrong.......I mean that I don't care to watch the coverage on the news anymore cus' they keep saying the same thing.......I do care about what is going on though. Some places can't even get water and food is starting to get spoiled because the lack of refridgeration! And those darn Canadians are looting.....they're acting like a bunch of Iraqi's over there! Speaking of Iraqi's.......the Iraqi people are laughing at america about the power blackout. That just bugs me! Anyway.....I live in California, so I'm not afected by the blackout..........just Arnold running for Governor.

"Why do you have to quote others when you can quote yourself?" (Quote by me)

Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God.
You see things, and you say 'why'. But i dream things that never were and i say 'why not'.

hey! my mom has lived through 3 blackouts now and I am interested in her stories of the first two!

i was waiting for a subway underground when it happeend. I was on a subway platform in Brooklyn, and the lights flickered and went out. The first thing I said ot myself was...."damn, its a blackout." What else could it be? It's hot, the first nice day in a long time....and it was hot! plus you have an outdated power grid system, and you ahve a blackout (damn squandered money!)

I was without power for close to 25 hours, but things came back on around 4 PM.

Again with Iragis laughing at Americans (i didnt even here this) they like to see Americans fall on our face......the bigshot world power doesnt have electricity) I heard that many places made it out to be al chaotic and stuff in New York, but it was relatively calm. People were partying, having a good time. True, there was some minor looting, but it wasn't major. People jsut coped with it and made the best of it. No big deal. Move on.......chill out......too hot to get all upset.

That's not what I heard on the radio. There were several interviews, and not one of them sounded calm or cool. Bush makes what is probably the smartest statement he's ever publicly made in that this has made Americans get back to reality. Then he goes on about updating the system so it doesn't happen again, which will of course take everyone far away from reality again. They need to set up contingency plans for what will happen in these situations in the future, because no matter how safeguarded a system is, it's always vulnerable.

Who cares? It's America...

Unfortuantely, it meant the forums were down, though... What actually happened? Because, like, I don't really want to switch on the telly to find our news riddled with American Blackout Telecasts and Interviews of distraught people.

Silly Americans wimps... No wonder our SAS kicks US butt

Alcar...

Nope Chicago area/Illinois, etc did not get affected by the massive blackouts on the east coast. I mainly havent been here all week because I have been busy with school work, and getting back into a school mode once again.

Didn't Canada get hit worse than the US? Nobody gives a damn about poor ole' Canada.

Evil foriegn people are blowing it way out of proportion. Saying it was "the greatest American Black-Out of all time... it affected the whole country!" and so on and so forth (not really, but still). The fact of the matter is, it was only New England and the Great Lakes area.

Hmmmmm...........I watched CNN and Fox news, and they both said that New York didn't have a problem with looting at all. I heard that looting was big in Canada! I'm just tired of hearing the same thing on the news over and over............I do check for updates, but once they start repeating themselves, my finger gets real itchy over the power button on my remote.

the black out only hit parts of New England. It did hit ALL of New York start, parts of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and a good portion of Ontario. NEw York city was calm. Any foreign reports of things going totally nuts here are completely false. I cannot say the same for other areas, but New York was cool.

The cause is still not totally known, but the power grid is weak. It was suppoed to be updated, but what I think is that is isn't being updated with techology. Everyone has a DVD player, a personal entertainment system, 4 TVs, PS2s, Xboxs, computers, etc. All these things drain enormous amounts of electricity, and the power grid was not updated to cope with this. So if there is a lightning storm or something, major heat, air conditioners going all night long, you will ahve a black out. THings drain electricity even when they are turned off. The standby light on your DVD player, stereo, computer...etc. YOU actually have to unplug a lot of appliances to have them TOTALLY off.

Bush said the situation needed to be investigated.....a big understatement. IT's not jsut the power grid. We need to take a step back and see how much we actually consume, especially with technology ever increasing.

i was living in new jersey during the '65 blackout - i was pretty young then and it seemed like an adventure - the '77 blackout was different - people behaved like animals - i'm glad there was little violence and looting this time
