MO - I dont understand

Ok, my first question: What is labor eggs? Is it mudokon eggs?

And my second question: I've just completed Munchs Oddysee, but it feels like half the game was missing.

I found this picture on oddworld.com:

It looks like a cutscene, but it wasnt in my game. Why? Is it from Munchs Exoddus or do I have to do something speciel to see it?

And wheres the meetles and the mugs? I have downloaded alot of movies with them, but they have been removed from oddworld.com. huh?

And then theres this picture.

Im totally sure that this race was not in Munchs Oddysee.

And what about that strange mudokon, Sam? He has been removed from oddworld.com too.

I hope one of you can explain this to me.

well: labor eggs = mudokon eggs

the video with the shrink was never supposed to be in MO, it is a commercial for AO that you can find as bonus on the PS AO CD

and there are a lot of things that didn't made it in the final game, probably because of the jump from PS2 to Xbox

Welcome to the Forums, Monkey. Yes, there's an incredible amount of stuff missing from MO. In fact someone saw me with a copy of MO and said, "Oh Munch, that's a great game," and some guy asked him, "What's it about?" and he replied, "It's about a disabled critter..." and I had to stop him and explain that no, it wasn't, that plot device was left out of the game.

Sam is the only Mudokon Queen alive today, and (in the original storyline of MO) she was to have being held captive by the Vykkers in Vykkers Labs and forced to produce labour eggs while having top secret experiments carried out on her. She's also a pill-popping bitch, and suicidal to boot, which is why she's in the care of a Shrink.

I can list pretty much all the stuff excluded from the final version of Munch's Oddysee, although it will almost certainly ruin the game further for you, and possibly contain spoilers regarding future events in the Oddworld Quintology. That means if you scroll down and actually read through the list and get upset, it's your own fault. I take no responcibility in this.

The Glukkon Queen, the Slig Queen, Munch's mum, Kintos, Gloktigi, Elums, Skeeters, Skrikits, Shrykull, Chroniclers, a return to the ruins of RuptureFarms, Meetles and Mugs, in-level story-telling (eg Munch has to single-handedly rescue Abe from enslavement in a Slog Hut), actually controlling Lulu and following him up the chain of command, Freezer 1345 (and possibly a whole 'Munch cloning' subplot, although that's only a theory), the Gorman Disenza virus, a proper introduction to the Raisin, daily and seasonal cycles, full life-cycles for all the creatures, Klime Java vendos, Mudokon and Slig (including Big Bro) ranks, visual health statuses, Mudflubs, proper water gameplay involving Sea Rexes, Stangs and underwater currents, a world simulation (having actions causing consequences - destroying a factory upstream would result in the water downstream gradually becoming less polluted and being able to sustain much more wildlife), Munch's ability to use his flute-like tongue to communicate with and confuse enemies, fully immersive GameSpeak (being able to possess Sligs, Paramites etc and having proper conversations instead of just hurling insults), elements of RTS, RPG and vehicle simulation, the whole idea of stealth when infiltrating Glukkon facilities, Name That Trauma, the Oddworld Mafia, plus possibly much more than all that, plus whatever I've forgotten. Apologies if I've ruined Munch's Oddysee for you even further, but I did warn you.

EDIT: I forgot to put a link to Alcar's What Might Have Been article. Go to Oddworld Universe and click on Features to find it. It contains stuff that I had, indeed, forgotten.

I didn't think anyone would know what it was. I was planning to keep it to myself until I opened TOE, but then I decided I couldn't be bothered. The Gorman Disenza virus is mentioned in one of Paul O'Connor's Designer Diaries (which CNET have refused me permission to recreate them since they are no longer hosted by GameSpot -- corporate bastiches... ) as a plot device. I don't know anything about it except that it leaves Munch incapacitated.

I've read it and no, you didnt ruin the game for me even further. I cant be more dissapointed in Munchs Oddysee as I am now.

I liked the intro, but after that the game just gets lame. Abes Oddysee and Abes Exoddus had a much better story, and they mixed humor in the game perfect.
Munchs Oddysee is too short and theres too much humor in it. I like humor in oddworld-games, but not so much as in Munchs Oddysee. It was perfect in AO and AE.
Paramites and scrabs didnt appear in the game enogh if you ask me. I only met them a couple of times, and I only had to run from them. There were no puzzles including scrabs or paramites and that is dissapointing.

I've downloaded alot of MO movies from Oddworld-web and that makes me even more dissapointed. I saw Abe tosses a slig throgh the windows, mudokons chopping and growing trees, a lot of different enviroments, mudokons gathering wood for a fire.....but nothing appeared in the game. Thats lame.

But im still an oddworld fan, so I havent given up on oddworld yet. I hope they can do it better in Steefs Oddysee, and I hope that they bring all the missing things in Munchs Exoddus.

Im not so good at english, so please dont yell at me if I have spelled something wrong

Why did they have to change Munchs Oddysee from PS2 to Xbox?

Coudnt they have done it with Steef (and the rest of the oddworld games) instead. Because it ruined MO completeley.

Munchs Oddysee is the worst thing that has happened to the oddworld universe in a long time.
I really hope that Steef is going to make oddworld as it was before.

And why did they have to make a new logo for the Xbox-version? The old logo was much better.

Im soooo dissapointed, and now I have to wait longer for the perfect oddworld game.

Xavier, yes, I copied them as well, but only the text. I asked CNET if I could reproduce them, but they said I could only link to them. They must be pretty dull, because I repeatedly told them they didn't actually host it anymore.

The move to Xbox in itself wasn't the problem, although I see the angle you're coming from. The new Munch logo is meant to demonstrate the awesome power of the graphics the Xbox can display, but if you ask me it's just a cartoony replacement. Right now we're all looking forward to Steef, although I did notice that Ed Fries on the X-Factor video said that Lorne has so many ideas, he just throws them out and doesn't spend enough time thinking about what's actually going to be in the game and what's not going to make it. Sounds about right, and actually explains quite a few things.

Hmm...do you mean that Lorne Lanning had too many ideas that coudnt make it to Munchs Oddysee?

I agree with you that the new logo is a cartoony replacement. It just isnt an oddworld logo. The whole Munchs Oddysee just inst oddworld. Its hard to explain, but I dont think MO had the right oddworld spirit as Abes Oddysee and Abes Exoddus had.

In other words....Munchs Oddysee sucked!

yeah. sucks is taking things way to far monkey. The game itself is an award winning groundbreaker. WE were let down because we expected more. Lanning himself wanted more. Just remember that you were given the best game they could give with their time restraints and wait for the better stuff.

Thanks for that list max, there was a lot of things I didnt even know in there. Also Mudflubs were in the game, building up companies, possession had two end ways. Either the explosive depossion, where the chunks of the body flew everywhere, and one where if you tapped the possession button it just released them and they would not die. And yes Molluck was supposed to make a return. Part of the game going along with munch being incapacitated and in the wheel chair, was the relationship between munch and abe was supposed to start very disfunctional, and Abe would have to cart munch around in his wheel chair.

Though as OWI had to cut many things out of the game to meet xbox launch day on time, they were not the only company. Even Halo, which is still the top selling game for xbox cut out several more missions, weapons, enemies, vehicles, size and scope of levels, etc. They even say thats why several levels were used over again, and just tweaked in design layout, and enemy placement.

Seeing that OW4 and Halo 2 will be out in 2004 and there is no permanent release schedule, Im sure both these games will be great. And as most I hope a lot of the original stuff in munch, will be in ME.
