Question Oddworld Gear Solid

Do you think that the next Oddworld game should rely more heavily on stealth. I'm not saying it should be the next Metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell, but just the basic idea of hiding in shadow, looking around corners while you have your back to a wall, etc. The early concepts of Munch's Odysee used the shadow technique (Slig Toss video), as did Abes Exoddus. Your thoughts?

Yeah, I agree.

Oddworld needs a bit more stealth.

Yeah I reckon it should be more reliant on stealth. All the sneaking and strangling.... MUAHAHA. Wouldn't it be cool if you could like strangle sligs. Or pull them out of their pants. That would be cool.

Oddly (heh, pun not intended) enough, I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday. I would at least like to see Abe's portions of the game have much more stealth. Leave the savior business to Munch.

more stealth!

Definately more stealth! Not only

* shadows
* sneaking
* strangling/tossing

* But also opportunities to take other paths than the most obvious one! Mudokons can climb (intro AE, muds in mines), so why not use that?

* invisibility
* Solving stuff with chanting/possession (creatures, farts, whatever,...)
* distraction (sound, a friend as bate?,...)

*...

Yes i'd love that as well!

I especially love the ideas of:

  • Distracting enemies with sounds, or throwing things in opposite direction
  • Shadow sneaking

Wired YES!

I think that future oddworld games should be more like stealth action games such as Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid. I really think going this direction with the oddworld games would be great for the series.

hmmmm, like I said, I don't want only that, but I have to admit SplinterCell is realy a great game.
but I allso want some realy platform chalenges like the "big runs" in the first 2 games, I just loved those parts (way better the paramite run in MO)

I think more stealth would be a very good idea. I liked how you could make use of shadows to sneak past Sligs in the Abe games ... it was challenging and bought something else to the game play.

Agree with Xavier though ... not too much stealth. Would not like to see it a game which just relies on stealth. What I'd like to see is the ability to use stealth as an option. Like you can either possess a Slig to eliminate it that way, or you can play a more "friendly" type of game to try and get past the Slig by sneaking/using shadows without the need to eliminate him. This gives the player a couple of ways to play the game.

I also love Oddipus' idea about different paths. I think that was initally meant to be in MO games, but was cut due to the time contstraints, etc. I really hope that Oddworld use this idea in a future game. I like exploration, and I like the ability to find different ways to complete a level. I also hope hidden Mudokons and hidden areas are bought back also.

Abe Babe...

oh yeah the hidden mudokons again would be great... in association with a big exploration game it could be very good!

Starting to sound like a 'compilation' of all great gameplay parts of existing genres like RPG, action, platformer, stealth,...

Maybe lets trow in some extreme sport? Abe on skates?
Or a little driving action? Munch against other wheelchair guys (paralympics)?

Some other genres too?
