Are there other Planets???

I think there are some other planets beyond Pluto. In our galaxy we see 9 planets total...but suppose there are more that scientists haven't seen.

Pluto has some whole contraversy over wether its like a moon or a planet or like a meteor, somethin like that. And no duh theres other planet, our solar system is like in our galaxy... Our galaxy is in like in the milky way... And theres a bunch of other things with names i don't remember, clusters of whatever the milky way is, then clusters of those, and down a long line theres like the universe. I should have paid better attention to that dumb video in 5th grade, darn...

Of course they are. Mostly, the only ones we can see are Gas Giants, but there are likely to be smaller, rocky planets as well, just too small to be visible.

Pluto is not a moon. A moon, by definition, is in orbit around a planet. Pluto is not. Pluto is an Asteroid, forming a two-planet system with Charon. (It is interesting to note that Earth's moon, which is the one generally referred as "the Moon", is not technically a Moon, as it has too much gravitational effect on the Earth to be classified as such, and therefore technically forms a two-planet system with Earth...)

There is still evidence suggesting a possible planet beyond Pluto. But then, I wouldn't expect someone who thinks that the Solar System is a Galaxy to know things like that...

*sighs* Okay, let's start with the Basics...

Earth and eight other planets (roughly) orbit Sol, our Sun.
A Sun and its planets make up a Star System. Ours is the Solar System.
Lots of Star Systems, including ours, make up the Milky Way, which is our Galaxy.
Galaxies are generally clustered in Galactic Clusters. The Milky Way shares a Cluster with Andromeda and the Magellanic Clouds, among other galaxies.

Clear? So it goes:

Star System
Star Cluster
Galaxy
Galactic Cluster
Supercluster
(Supersupercluster?)
Universe

actually I believe(but am not certain) that they found a whole bunch of small planets but found so many that they were reclasified as planetoids (AKA asteroids). if anyone knows whether or not this is true please say so.

It is very likely to believe that there are millions of other terrestrial planets on the Milky Way Galaxy. There are several methods to detect and find planets in other star systems. If you want to know more about them, visit this page: NASA's results for 'planets'. Over 25,000 links to keep you entertained for a while...

I'll just impose a warning before this thread is ruined. Jacob and Sligface: be quiet.

Lampion, I heard of an interesting way to detect planets the other day on some television program. They look at a distant star and see if it's wobbling. A wobble is an indication of another planet's gravitational pull effecting the star on which it orbits. It must be a rather large planet to have such influence on a star, but then again, I don't profess to know much about astronomy so perhaps the smallest of planets could create a wobble.

Sorry if I was sounding patronising there. I was quite drunk, so I was concentrating too much on spelling and grammar to actually think about what I was saying...

That's what I meant when I said the only planets we can detect at the moment are Gas Giants.

Silly little boy...thats getting me banned then int it...like...O-M-G DUH!! Also, i didn't...since why the Hell would i PM you...and you never showed any proof of it...cos there was none might i add.

Yeh...im stopping now. A Moon doesn't have to orbit the planets. The planet could be destroyed and have lots of moons and then the moons are not revolving around a planet are they...no...i think i have proven my point very well...please do not try to contradict me.

I dont get that...is that like saying you wont ban me...or you will. Cos that sounds like one of those re-assuring question type things. And hey, i stopped...

No, because they are on longer Moons then. They're just Planetoids or Asteroids, depending on their size/shape...

I don't think that the earth and moon are considered a two planet system (of couse I could be completely wrong) because wouldn't the earth and the moon have to revolve around each other for that to be the case? (like in binary star systems). Of couse, I don't think pluto's moon does that, and I know that it is considered a binary planet with pluto. But, yeah the moon is incredibly large proportionally to the earth when compared to other natural satilites around the other planets. It is only second to pluto's moon in that regard. If I remember correctly, our moon was created when something huge collided with the earth while it was forming forcing massive amounts of matter to accumulate in orbit around the earth.

To be blunt, you are wrong. Earth and the Moon revolve around a common centre of mass, as do Pluto and Charon.
