The Garden of Earthly Delights

Here's my all-time favorite painting by Hieronymus Bosch, The Garden of Earthly Delights. It's made of four pieces on a series of folding panels. I've used a part of it in my avatar.

Here's one of the pieces:

Here's the middle, which is my favourite:

And here's the final panel:

On the panels that open up you can see creation.

Post some of your own favourite art.

The WipEout games are very pretty, I'd say that they are my favourite pieces of art.

Well I can't post the games so I'll give you some URLs...

What defines art?

I guess I had traditional fine art in mind when I posted this topic, but I have no problem discussing/viewing any images you like. "The Garden of Earthly Delights" is actually about lust, which the artist believed would be the downfall of mankind. The first panel we see the garden of eden, then in the second we see everyone participating in different perverse acts, then in the third we see chaos, which is supposed to be hell.

Are we just discussing favourite art pieces? If so, here's mine:

All of these pics are from a video game from MagiNation, in which I have printed out with our handy-dandy printer and are soon to be framed and put in my room.

Here is a fine example:

That's some of the best computer art out there. The evil guy with the ripped robes is really cool looking. That one and this one are the two in my room:

And if you look closely, you can see that the mummy guy summoning the dragon thinghy also has a girl attatched to him.

This is one is really cool, but it didn't quite go well in my room.

So waddya think?

You hate depressing art? That's a little close-minded... What do you consider depressing? Art shouldn't be judged by that...

Syd, i really love The Garden of Earthly Delights.. It's so beautiful and meaningful... It's really a nice piece of art. Bosch is great. My favorite plates would have to be the middle plate and the final plate.

Some of me favorite artists include Salvador Dali, Mark Ryden, Hieronymus Bosch, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquit. There are many paintings that I love... I like the surrealist art movement, and Dadaism.

There are so many paintings I love, I will post some URLs instead of images here.

Are you saying that the few of us who did post some of our favorite art shouldn't have because this was about Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights? Remember, Sydney also said "Post some of your own favourite art." So it is about other art too, not just The Garden of Earthly Delights...

I like paintings that you can use your imagination to see what the picture is.
Some of my favourite paintings are quite well known and they are:

"The Persistence Of Memory" Salvador Dali. I like this one. It's like I'm really in the picture(It's the one with the clocks melting).

"The Scream" Edvard Munch. I Just like this one. I think it's very mysterious.

"Composition With Red, Yellow and Blue" Piet Mondrian. Don't even ask me why I like this one.

"Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte" Georges Seurat. I think this painting is nice.

"Red Room (Harmony In Red)" Henri Matisse. I think the red just catches my eye.

Well that's enough.

Then just enjoy it for the visuals. Although I think Bosch's view that lust is our downfall is accurate. Most of the world's problems are indirectly a result of the pursuit of ejaculation.

I have to confess, I am not a connoisseur of Great Art. I can't even spell connoisseur... I appreciate it when I see it, but I know very little about it...

That site I posted in a separate topic (sorry about that, Sydney, I hadn't read this topic properly) has some interesting art on it...

However, there are some artists that would not usually be considered Great Artists that I am nonetheless fond of. The artist who draws the sleeve art for Gomez's Albums/Singles, for example, has a very distinctive and pleasing style... Hang on while I go and try to find some examples...
