In recent times I've found anti-smoking campaigners to be more annoying than smokers themselves. I'll be the first to admit that smoking cigarettes isn't the healthiest habit in the world, but there are many popular myths about smoking, many of which have been mentioned in this thread.
Firstly, it is not more healthy to smoke than to sit next to someone who is smoking. Common sense tells us that the person with the cigarette would be breathing in just as much, if not more unfiltered smoke from the tip of the smoke than the person sitting next to them.
Smoking cigarettes doesn't damage the environment. Cig smoke is miniscule in comparison to factories, cars, natural pollution, etc. It's ridiculous, the only thing you could pin on smokers regarding the environment is irresponsibly discarding the butts, which doesn't apply to all of us. Smoking doesn't yellow the teeth, and the smell is only noticable immediately after they have smoked. Yes, it's unhealthy. But so is eating meat, sugar and oil. Smoking a cigarette doesn't take ten minutes off your life, do you really expect someone to believe that? Exaggerating the effects of smoking is dishonest, although I assume people here are simply victims of anti-smoking propaganda. I only smoke a pack a week, if that.
