These letters are the logos of game sites. Sites which distribute these pictures place their logo on them as a cheap form of advertising. For example, the 'G' is probably the logo of http://www.Gamespot.com
... or to stop other sites from stealing their images. Except that doesn't always work if the logo is put in a place where it can easily be covered up.
