The Newly Diseased Among Us: How pills and pressure turn the blame away from schools

Are some of you more than a little disturbed(he he he) about the trend of just explaining away everbody's problems with a new medicine and a new disease? I too was once emotionally disturbed, let me explain why we will nevered be cured and in the words of the imortal George Carlin are "All diseased". Here are the hard facts. In a school on average 17% are learning disabled. In a school! Isn't that priceless "Little jimmy doesn't know how to read and he's in forth ****ing grade!Don't blame it on us he has(thinking ....thinking)ADD thats it , by golly ADD!" How many of these problems are the real shit and not just fabrications? Well, the world may never know 'cause everything from compulsive gambling, compulsive shopping, and compulsive wanting to get out of your seat every three hours are all learning disabilities. I wasn't "happy" at one time, I saw the flaws in what people were telling me to believe and think, I realised my whole family was a bunch of perverts and domineering malcontents and discovered the true me: A cynical bastard whose forte was disagreeing with everybody and finding out a lot of people are idiots, along with just having a little time alone without bouncing off the walls with giddiness.Anyway, seeing some people as idiots whose sole purpose in life was to abuse people I went to counseling: For 2 years. did it help? Well since my peers and authorities have told me everything is relative, we'll never know. One in five is clinically depressed. What the hell constitutes clinical depression? I get happy sad and all over again in a given day, like like all humans"There are no known known nerological deficits, no known genetic traits, no consistent clinical descriptions, no specific diagnostic testing, and no reliable methods of treatments." For made up disorders, that is.It's all because schools had a high percent of people who couldn't read or do math cause teachers didn't know their asses from their elbows. Scores plummeted because schools became more or expirementing centers on children with the child being the guinea pigs.Ld is all about don't blame me It isn't because we abandonded phonics and hard core teaching to focus on every freaking new idea to pop onto the radar. Or because we used low standards, watered down textbooks, scrapped "elitist" higher ed programs, and figured to hell with the children. As long as joe blow and joe I don't know appear above average so we, the schools, get funding, it's all alright. It isn't the schools it's your child. Don't blame us. Of corse, I'm wrong. WE are ALL diseased. Unless we are somehow succeeding, than thank the powers that be that were weren't born with a made up malady that is debilitating, only a slight neurosis. May all of us be as blessed. P.S. read the chapter Doctor Doctor in Dumbing Down Our Kids if you can. A real eye opener, just as the as the whole book is, which shows just how shitty the average school is.

I see where you're coming from here, I think. The problem is, we live in a "Don't Blame Me" Culture. Everyone is always looking for something like ADD, Shopaholism, or something else that means that their problems are not their fault. I know this might seem to go against my "wishy-washy-liberal" nature, but these people ought to stand up and deal with their problems, rather than looking for excuses...

I think I agree with you, but if I have totally got the wrong end of the stick here, forgive me.

[I mean no offense at all, honestly, but I can't help but ask: Could not paragraph your posts at all? It would make them a lot easier to read...]
