Captive
"So there's no sign?"
The mayor looked up at Coombes. "Not yet, but there have also been no killings since the new security was employed."
Coombes rested two of his hands on the Mayor's desk. "I don't care if he never kills again, we want him recaptured..."
The Mayor cleared his throat, trying to think of a way to reply, when there was a knock on the office door. "Who is it?"
The muffled voice of Trey, the captain of the new Slig guards, filtered through the door. "We've captured yer killer for yer, sir!"
The mayor's face broke into a satisfied smile. "Come on in..."
The door burst open to reveal a crowd of sligs surrounding a large green slig. Trey stood a little forward of the rest, with a smug expression on his face.
The mayor stood up, angrily. "Spider!?"
Coombes's face fell slightly, but his voice was expressionless. "Thank you, Captain. If you will leave us alone with him, I'm sure we can handle him..."
Trey looked unsure of himself. "Are yer sure? He's a dangerous criminal..."
"I'm sure. He is tied up, after all..."
Trey frowned, but turned and ordered his men from the room. When they were gone, Coombes approached the bound figure, smiling slowly.
"So this is the great Spider, is it?"
Spider looked up at him, puzzlement in his eyes. "If yer know I'm not Malice, what der yer want with me?"
The mayor looked confused. "You mean he isn't the Killer?"
Coombes paused, and turned back to the mayor. "No, not the killer who has been terrorising your village. However, he is still a killer. He killed several of my colleagues during his escape. He is just as dangerous a criminal as the other. He is a threat to the stability of Pyke." He looked the mayor in the eyes. "He is a threat to your power."
The mayor's face grew stony. "Captain?"
Trey opened the door again. "Boss?"
"Take him down to the cells, but keep your eyes open for anything like him in the forest..."
Trey nodded. "'s Boss..."
