Need help: Photoshop

Does anyone here have Photoshop? I have a problem with it which I cannot solve.
The problem is this: When I double click on a .JPG or .GIF file, it automaticly opens them in Photoshop. It wouldn't be too bad, but Photoshop takes ages to load, and animated gifs do not animate in it, which is a pain. I want Internet Explorer to automaticly open GIFs and JPGs again. I have tried everything I know (Like looking through the file types menu in Windows), and searched through the Photoshop help file, but to no avail. Is there any way to solve this problem?
Yes, I know there was a little dialouge box when I first installed it asking me what files I wanted it to automaticly open, but at that time, I didn't know how long it takes to load.

you can manually chose what program to open the pic by right clicking on the icon and selecting the 'open with' command. It will give you a selection of programs that can open the pic.

Now if your system doesn't have that...then I can't help you...

You must have installed the file associations to point to PhotoShop when you installed the program. I usually leave them as they are... as yes, PhotoShop is a great program, but it does take ages to load, so it's not good for just viewing an image.

You could try this in Windows Explorer or My Computer:

• Click Tools -> Folder Options
• Click the File Types Tab
• Scroll down the list until you see the file type you want (i.e. Jpeg file, Gif Image, etc)
• Highlight this and click the Edit button
• In the bottom half of this screen there should be different commands (i.e. Open, Print). Highlight Open
• Click the Edit button
• Click the Browse button to locate the program you want to open these files with (i.e. Internet Explorer). You need to find where the program runs from though.
• Click OK and then Close

This should work providing I got it right. I'm on a Windows 2000 system currently, and it's done a little bit different than 98. So hopefully my memory serves me correctly, otherwise you at least get the general idea.

Thanks for your help, both of you, but I've already tried both of those. The "Open With" command only appears when you select a file that the computer doesn't recocnise. Someone on the Esper Online forums suggested holding down Tab whilst right clicking on the file, but all the computer did was beep at me.
As for the file types thing, it says it opens JPGs in IE, when it actually doesn't, and GIF isn't listed, which is strange.

I get the 'open with' option right off files that have the Adobe Photoshop icon already on them. But then I am using Windows ME...so maybe its because you are using an older operating system.

Problem solved. Someone on EO suggested that I held down shift while I right clicked on it, and it works. Thanks for your help anyway.
