Bullies

Some people at school really tick me off. I'm talking about the jocks/preps who make fun of people for no reason! Why do people do this? Just because of the fact that someone's different gives you the right to ridicule them?! Here at OF, there are people from all over the world that get along fine (for the most part). Why can we learn to accept others but some people can't?

Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*I've encountered people like that, too. I used to go to an inner-city middle school that was a very scary place due to the amount of gang activity that existed there. Sometimes the best way to deal with bullies like that is not to deal with them at all. I found that when confronted by gang members for no reason, "doing nothing" really did work. I wasn't stupid enough to fight them, so when they started slapping me around and tripping me, I would just stand there. I'll tell you they got sick of that pretty fast.. Once I started doing that, nobody would ever bother me in that way because they knew that they wouldn't get their satisfaction. Don't get me wrong; I didn't just let them pound me- I just moved around and never touched them back. It made me feel good too, because the non-violent approach always prevailed over the violent one. I even made a good friend by doing that once. One person hated me so much for reasons I never knew, and one day he hocked a loogie in my face and was suprised when I didn't get mad or try to fight him. I just wiped it off and continued with what I was doing. He even told me that he respected me much much more. It's too bad that more people don't take this approach.

Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Back on course toward the topic, I always get a great sense of satisfaction when I come here and know that our community, which is composed of many different people from all over the world, can talk together and share ideas with very little if any prejudice. This is one of my favorite places to be.

Not exactly, Gluk Schmuck. A jock is like someone really into sports and thinks they're better than everybody else. A prep is like someone really popular and thinks they're better than everybody else. (Am I sounding monotonous or what?)

What are you talking about, molluck? i think this would be make that they'd tease odditie more! Simply do verbal self-defence when they say something about/to you that insults you.
___

On every class is a person who have pulled the "arse-card" (with other words, this person is just there to be teased by the others). In our class is a girl (i won't name her even thought you anyway wouldn't get to know her someday ). The girls in our class just tease her everyday...oh no...i told it wrong...they even hate her 'cause she is different like the other (negative)!
The kind of teasing in our class is extremely mean:
We had sport yesterday and the girls didn't wanted to play with her. So, the girl who has pulled the arse-card sat down on the ground and stared at us.
One of them went to her and punched the ball against her head (without reason).

After sport three girls took Sauerkraut and threw it on her head...her whole table was full with it. They also filled her bag with Sauerkraut and water.
She didn't noticed that she sat the whole time into honey ect.

and this every day.

I am lucky, in that my school is very Middle-Class, so the people there are very friendly, liberal sorts of people [even if some of the are a bit stuck-up ]. However, the school I went to before last year was in quite a bad area, and there was a lot of racism and sexism and things like that. I didn't get bullied much then, either, for some reason. I think it's because back then I just used to fade into the background... And of course everyone wanted help with homework at some time or another...

It's hard to give advice to people who are bullied, since it depends very much on the situation. If your school is like the one I am in, you don't tell the teachers, you tell the other pupils, and the bully is effectively ostracised. In most schools, however, ignoring them is the best policy, closely followed by telling teachers...

You ARE lucky, Rettick. I'm discriminated all the time at my school, simply becuase I fit into a different lifestyle than preps and jocks. I never thought a pair of camo pants, a black derby jacket, and a bracelet covered in metal studs could be targeted by so many stuck up ppl. Not like THAT is gonna change anything though. I'll do whatever the hell I want. I just wish there are more punks in my school.

It takes all sorts to make a world, but we could certainly do without some of them, couldn't we?

At our school, there's not really any bullying at all. Nobody is an outcast. Everyone has a clique. Well... Actually, there is this one girl who is an outcast. She always wears dresses and barely ever talks. Nobody makes fun of her or teases her though. I used to be teased all the time last year and the year before. But this year I'm pretty secure, and I'm always as nice as I can be to everyone.

I sometimes get bullied by a guy who isn't even popular. He just thinks that bullying people will make him popular. He will try to push me, but all I do is move back to where I was and stand there. I find this to be very effective. When it comes to verbal bullying, just try to ignore what they say and continue whatever you are doing. This is also very effective.

I had one boy in grade school that absolutely hated me...and I never knew why! I never did anything to him!
And in high school I had peeps calling me names and teasing me just because I was different (I wasn't someone that was trying to be 'popular' or anything like that). Oh by the way...this was in a Catholic High School! You would think they would have better morals then that....

Same here. Everyone has there so called "clique." There are like maybe like 1 or 2 bullies but they are nerds. Everyone mostly cares about their jobs, parties, school and friends.

My school doesn't have much bulling. I've never really understood why people bully, other than that it gives them a bit of pleasure. It must make them feel a little better about themselves knowing they can badly affect somebody else. Everyone will agree that bullies seem to be the less intelligent of students, perhaps they feel insecure and compensate their feelings with hurting others.

Pity them, that's my only advice.

In primary school, I did get some verbal abuse, but they didn't get very much satisfaction out of me because I either verbally insulted them back, laughed at thier insults, or ignored them. I did get beaten up twice (and survived without injury), but the teachers did something about it. Even if the bullying wasn't much, it is one of the reasons I ditched school and went to Home Education. . . Nowadays, I don't get bullied beacue I am never seen in school, and hardly seen on the streets by my previous enimies.

There is this really, really annoying S.O.B. at my school who picked on me for a year. This kept happening untill 2 days ago I glanced at this topic. Using all of your advice, (basicly standing up to him in different ways) I implemented this tactic and what happened? He walks of and I've had no trouble since. Now he ignores me for which I'm glad because I don't won't to get in a fight with him because if I beat him up he'ed get his hard Yr11 friends to beat me up. (I'm in Yr9) So, THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE EVERYONE!!!!
