E-Sports!

Does anyone have any interest in or indeed play games that are considered "E-sports" on some level?

Examples include: League of Legends, DOTA 2, Counterstrike: Go, Smite, Hearthstone and other shit like that?

I've been actively playing Dota 2 with my mates for a couple of years now and I love it.

I don't judge skill on mmr cause none of us play ranked. We go by experience And I've almost got 2000 games.

I've also played TF2 competitively back in the day. We aren't amazing but it was fun.

E-Sports and handisports are almost the same thing.

Rainbow Six: Siege is apparently entering into the realms of E-sports, though I won't pretend I'm remotely good enough to participate on a level like that.

Wow that is a lot of matches! I've been playing since 2012 and I haven't even played that many! Do you follow the professional scene at all?

So I have heard. Sounds a bit too...forced I guess? I feel a lot of Games try to force the whole "e-sports, bitch!" thing.

I watch The International and a few majors. But I don't really follow every event. My mate gives me a recap when we all watch.

Well the game is in the same tactical rank as Counterstrike, I'd say it's many times more tactical TBH so I can see it as an E-sport. But the game is poorly optimized for it and on occasion a kill is just all luck or bad lag.

Used to play the MLG playlist on Halo 3 when it was still worth playing. Sadly it's lost population since it got overrun by loads of aimbot users and it's unmoderated. Halo 5 just isn't the same in any way to me.

Ill ignore that Evolve comment for now...

But yes, I love E-sports. Been watching Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 competitive scenes for years. I play Rainbow Six siege, smite and Mortal Kombat X, and while im not that great at Siege or smite I am starting to follow the competitive scenes for both and maybe one day Ill get to that level. But Ive already entered tournaments for Mortal Kombat and im going interstate in May for Australias biggest fighting game tournament so that will be exciting.

Speedrunning of course is competitive but its very seperate from E-sports.
When Tekken 7 comes out I intend to compete in that game as well.

God that game was the most overhyped piece of shit of 2014. The gameplay is fun and exciting. For 5 minutes. And that's not even getting into the DLC bullshit.

Yup. I played the beta before it came out, so I pretty much played the entire thing for free.

Boring as fuck.

What is the competitive scene for Mortal Kombat like? Strong? I know that Street Fighter is always popular but I haven't heard much about MK.

Its hard to beat Street fighter. But its fairly strong Id say. At least in the US it is. MKX had over a thousand entrants at EVO 2015. Mortal Kombat XL just released, alongside Kombat Pack 2, the second character expansion, adding 4 new characters, a new map and a tonne of balance changes. So itll be interesting to see how it goes.
Final Round is this weekend if you want to see for yourself. The first tournament of the year that allows the new characters.

Also, Evolve was far deeper than you guys give it credit for. I played it for 2 months straight when it came out, until of course Mortal Kombat X came out. I wouldnt call it an E-sport, but its a tonne of fun.

Thats the problem you see, the developers of EvolvE called it an E-sport.

m That game was marketed as an E-Sport? Pffft.

Not even Left 4 Dead was ever considered an E-sport. And the VS mode on that game is more complex then Evolve!

I am considered super pro on Invoker and complete noob on other characters in Dota 2.

Not buying MKX until Sindel joins the roster.

Left 4 Dead has a strong competitive community to this very day and has a stronger overall community than Evolve could ever wish to have. L4D's competitive scene may not be an official E-sport, but people take it very seriously.

Fuck. Invoker.

That hero is so goddamn OP now. I avoid All Pick because someone will 9 times out of 10 pick that sonofabitch.

I'm a huge fan of Street Fighter, but never got interested/good enough to play on a competetive level. Never really had the opportunity, though, either, so I'm not saying I'm against it. But I play games for fun. I'd happily just do score attack / time trial / whatever mode for hours than sit around watching games, counting frames and all that goes into competitive play.

Short answer: I'm a lazy, filthy casual.
