I've heard people say that as well but I'm not sure why. I imagine it would be nicer with a touchscreen, but it's just as easy to use with a mouse as anything else is.

The interface actually seems really well designed and works brilliantly on a tablet.

It's a pity they're moving away from the desktop, but they're doing it in a clever way.

I still like the desktop UI for now and I'm completely against the App Store setup, so I'm sticking with 7 for now.

You still have a desktop with Windows 8, the only thing that changed was how you access news, applications and whatnot, which you can use the Metro UI. That's all.

No. The idea is that the desktop is there for people who need it and the Metro/whatever interface is there for people who need it.

From what I've read, Win8 is useable by people without touchscreens, but all the significant OS improvements are in the Metro/whatever interface, so there's no real point in upgrading if you're happy with Win7.

I'll also add that equating the Metro style to Android is hilariously wrong.

I think Windows 8 is going to create a massive shift on how people approach computers. Integrating smartphone/tablet-style "download and go" apps is an interesting idea which could, if successful, change how we think of and work with operating systems and applications drastically. And having such a huge market contender embracing modern interfaces and app distribution methods is big.

I can only hope that people realise that the status quo doesn't have to be the be-all-end-all.

But there's something worse than that. My windows/xbox live account was broken and every time I try to login, the following text appears:
"Oh no... this should not have happened"
And it'd be ok, if there wasn't this guy there:

It isn't so much the lack of text and simplified layout as the huge sadface emoticon that dominates the screen. I actually like Windows 8 on tablets, which is where it belongs, it just reminds me of how the Xbox interface became too geared towards Kinect users.
