The future of OWF

OWI is active again. With Stranger's Wrath, Munch's Oddysee and other games of OWI's future being released soon. This means we're about to get a lot more popular. Do you think we're gonna get floods of 11 year old annoying brats?
I certainly hope not.

It's happened before.

20% those brats turn out to be useful members, and 75% leave as quickly as they came. Meaning we only have about 5%'s worth of idiots to deal with in the long term.

So I'm not too worried.

Sounds good to me. I don't want this place to become really big either though :/
I want it to stay just how it is, I like the community here as it is.

I don't think it'll ever be big.... Unless they make some more accessible games.

Hmm, I don't think we have to worry about too many new people most of the people that join it seems, are under 13, and thus get scared of real easily by the off topic section.

This community is hard to be "accepted into" in its current state - It'll probably be like MeechMunchie said. Sure, it may be shaken up a little by new members, but those who stay make it more interesting and give new topics for the rest of us to talk about.

I don't think I would mind new people joining. I don't think they would make me like being here any less. Then again, I barely pay attention to what seemingly new members post.

The spelling comment kind of gets the full brunt of my 'Hypocrites' comment, but anyone who remembers that they used to be a bad poster deciding to hate on bad posters when they join is a hypocrite.

Intergrating into the community superposes they want to fit in and will become 'good' posters to do so, and I don't think anybody here started off as a great poster. Feel free to try and prove me otherwise, but remember this forum has a large large archive.

I agree. If we want this community to grow, then discouraging waves of kids 13 years old and younger is they wrong thing to do. Even if they're annoying, they'll eventually learn the rules and become a great poster.

I think we should make it easier for new members. New members might not understand the rules at first, so we shouldn't be expecting much from them. So when the do something wrong, they should merely be warned instead of getting banned.

But the longer they are active on the forums, we should start expecting more from them. If they've been warned once or twice before, then they should know that it's wrong and if they do it again then they can get temp. banned.

I don't know how much exposition you get to Off Topic, but believe me the moderators have a very very high tolerence of new people. The community itself not so much, though we've been much much worse in the past.

It's hard to get accepted into, not because of rules or anything like that (the rules are fair anyway IMO, nothing wrong with them - And people do get warned before they get banned outright), but because the main members form a long-established and close-knit community.

It takes lots of participation and time to get to know everyone and eventually fit in somewhere. People who don't take the time to contribute properly don't fit in, and eventually they leave (like the people who joined just to play on the Minecraft server) - And this is a good thing since it sorts out those who end up to be decent members from those who won't be.

Communities don't necessarily need to grow much in order to be good - And I'm sure people here would rather this community would stay as a "quality over quantity" affair.

I joined when I was 11, and I was an annoying little c**t. I like to think that I've grown out of that stage. Hopefully new annoying members will also realise that to be taken seriously around here, you've gotta smarten up or get out.

That sounds a little harsher than I intended but the message is still there.

But not all new member's are annoying. Many times they are just 'green' and people needlessly flame them and stuff. I try at least to keep Welcomes and Birthdays as friendly as possible. I really can't tolerate anymore needless drama. Everyone deserves a shot(In the head wahahaha), cos everyone's been annoying at some point or another. But in the end, the people that stay usually learn to fit in, and the one's who are simply too annoying to fit usually go away by themselves or they get banned, due to constant violation of the rules.
Like I understand people boo'ing members who just never learn, but that's another story.

Well I'd say all that is true. We have a pretty good filter of smart people here. I really like this place, it's not really like other video game forums.
