General speculation/wishful thinking thread

OK so I noticed you didn't have a general thread for discussing what you want from Oddworld in the future so I decided to make it.
Personally I played all 7 of the Oddworld games and I think that before continuing the Oddworld quintology they should remake every one of them.
Abe's Oddysee--out of all the games that have been released so far, I gave this the most thought. Now, I'm perfectly aware about the upcoming HD version but I'm still hoping that sometime in the future there would be a completely 3D version, in the style of Munch's Oddysee pre-rendered videos. Since joining this forum, I've read quite a few interviews, and one of them that really stuck with me is the one where Lorne talks about the next Oddworld game. The most memorable quote from the interview goes along the lines of
"instead of giving you a story game with 40 hours of linear gameplay we want to make something more like a living ecosystem"
My first thought when I read that quote was: why not combine the idea of a long story game with a living ecosystem? Isn't that what Munch's Oddysee was originally supposed to be?
I spent quite a while savouring over the idea of a 3D Abe's Oddysee. I'd love to run around all the levels of it remade in 3D, with a HUGE story mode and advanced AI that give the impression of an ecosystem at the same time. I then spent time thinking of the different missions that one would have to complete as Abe in such a game. I might post a few of my ideas later on.
Abe's Exoddus should get the same treatment.
Oddworld Adventures should be remade into a small 3D game for the 3DS
Instead of making it an alternate story to AO, the plot should take place after AE and involve Abe going on a mini-quest back to Paramonia.
In a similar manner, Oddworld Adventures 2 should take place after the first one, and the plot should be about how Abe travels to a Soulstorm Microbrewery.
Munch's Oddysee should obviously be remade to fit all of the original ideas.
The GBA version should be remade to play like the original Xbox version and be released on the 3DS
And Stranger's Wrath...this one needs the LEAST improvement of all but one thing I think that could be added is a story of how Stranger became who he is at the beginning of the game. In order to make the beginning of the game equally mysterious this part should be played as a flashback after you get to the grub village.
Post your own wishes or speculation. Opinions on what I posted are welcome as well.

I don't want Abe's Oddysee to be in 3D particularly because the original was 2D. They're making it 2.5D which will be great.

I don't think Abe's Exoddus should be remade since it will cut time off the ones they're already remaking and the new ones like Hand Of Odd etc. Plus they're already remaking AO which is not much different.

Munch's Oddysee probably needs the parts put in what were cut out to make it in time for the original xbox release date. Basically to make it complete and make the screen when you save all 300 in exoddus make sense...

Stranger's Wrath is just perfect and there's not much I can't think of apart from improving the graphics (not that they were bad) which they're already doing.

Oddworld Adventures may be a good idea for a handheld but I don't think they have time since they'll have to write an engine for the 3DS/NGP, and they already have a lot of projects in progress.

This is a little rushed version of my opinion but I'm actually on my original xbox playing Stranger's Wrath right now.

I've never actually beaten SW. I'm going to do it now since my xbox is working again...

I think making it in 3D will be fantastic. Remaking it in 2.5D will be kind of pointless. If you want it to be different to be the original, making it in 3D will be ideal because it offers so much more atmosphere and the great storyline to the original we all know but it feels like we're playing a whole new game.

If it was 3D, how would they make the secret areas?
You'd be able to see behind the barrels!

Everything they are doing now is what I want from them at this...this isn't really speculation anyway. Speculating is saying like, "I wonder what's for dinner?"

That's half the point. I don't want it to be like the original! It'd be quite nice if they made something new instead of the secret areas. They can change it around a bit and try new things. It would be just so boring if they remade it exactly the same but just better graphics >.<

I personally like what they're currently doing with it. It means the people who haven't heard or played oddworld get to know it. A 2.5D HD remake sounds like a good idea to me.
You don't want to start off too big...

Of course in Sligstorm you would have played a slig grub, so you wouldn't have actually had a gun.

All I want is that they finish and release something first before doing anyting else!

Atleast give us SOMETHING to start with and see what they are capable of. If the whole remake things starts to be a total disaster, would we WANT to have future games yet?

So did the models of Much Oddysee back in the days.
Turned out the movement controls of the game sucked pretty bad. A game runs or falls with it's playability, NOT graphics.
Looking at stuff is awesome. But if you don't know how it plays, you can't say anything about it.

Oh, and I am not worried. I just want to play something sooner then later before brainstorming and thinking over how the quintology should end already.

Well soon as MO has gone already and people have said what they don't like about it, hopefully they will pick up the bits people didn't like and improve on it in some way. Feedback is key!

Exactly, feedback is the key. So if they make all games at the same time, and release them at the same time, they cannot add the feedback in the other games before release. Not that they would release all at the same time. But they are already working on more projects at once. To me that seems that the focus is not entirely on one game as it actually should have been. I see those things happen at where I work (totally unrelated, but the principle is the same), that they have to split their focus on several projects, and loose the full potention of the single project that could have been much better if they had given attention seperately. Now all they do is put more attention to those already release projects because they were not good enough, so that is a total waste of funds, resources and image to the customer!

Therefor they should focus more on the release of SW before doing the other stuff

And yes, he probably does, but wishful thinking has no boundaries, and calling him on it makes you look like an uptight noob.

On topic, having a game from the perspective of wildlife would be cool, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do that. Imagine if you were playing as, say, a paramite, and you went around killing sligs and ripping up their factories and shit.
Maybe not your guys' cup of tea, but I like games like that.

I'd rather be a crazy slig with mental problems, who also has only 12 hours left to destroy everything and create as much chaos within the Magog Cartel as possible. That's what I think SligStorm should be, but that's just me. It's a perfect plot for total Oddworld destruction.
