Vote Oddworld in to the Smithsonian

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is putting on a new exhibit: The Art of Video Games! For six months the prestigious institute will be showcasing 80 titles from 40 years of video game history, and from today until April 27, 2011, the public can help choose which games will have the honor of appearing.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is up for inclusion, facing Metal Gear Solid and Crash Bandicoot: Warped for selection as the representative of the Action Genre on the original Sony PlayStation. As Oddworld fans we know you want to vote for us, so go now to the voting website, look at the Transition Era (Era 4) and let them know how artistic Oddworld is!

The Art of Video Games run from March 16, 2012 to September 30, 2012 at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC.

Still, once it gets working I can't imagine Oddworld losing out to Crash Bandicoot. Maybe MGS, but honestly I doubt it.

It seems to work for me, though it's a bit slow. That's an interesting selection they have there, though I get the feeling they're missing out on a few games that deserve a mention (such as many of the DOS classics, some of them had awesome artwork for their time). At least AO, Psychonauts and Half-Life 2 are among them. (Was Worms Armageddon really on the Nintendo 64?)

I'm not sure that this is actually a "Vote and we'll put it in dealy". The impression I got was that it's more about expression of interest and that if both Oddworld and MGS get a lot of votes, they could both be in the exhibition.

Also, the site is probably under a lot of load at the moment as the URL gets passed around the intertubes. If it doesn't work for you, maybe leave off and try again in a couple o' days.

Anyway, I think that Oddworld has a good chance of winning but I'm interested in how an epoch 1 game or whatever can have good art? It's like a competition between pong and space invaders surely?

It's not about having good art. It's about being good art. And that takes in to account many things, including quality, originality and historical importance.

You can't compare R'nC to SoTC or GoW. They're in different leagues. I don't know about THU2, though.

Wow, is that a screen shot of Toy Commander for the Dreamcast they have representing the "Transition" era?

I honestly don't think Oddworld revolutionized video games as much as Metal Gear Solid did but Oddworld definitely gets my vote because it shows people who aren't avid gamers what a versatile medium gaming is and that it's not all about violence and shooting people.
