star trek vs star wars

Okay I Know this subject has been discussed to death but I missed those discussions so I'm starting a new one.

let's rule out all powerful beings such as Q because saying that they can just wish the other side out of existance is unfair

I think star trek would win for a couple of reasons, 1) star trek ships are manoverable (no Idea how to spell that) where star wars ships are just flying bricks with guns attached 2) most star wars ships dont look like they have much defending there rear and star trek would notice that.

as for the whole rubbish about star wars weapons being 300 million gigawatts, thats all it is, rubbish, because from what you see it gives out way less output and gorge lucus didn't have a clue what he was talking about with the scientific terms, proof of this is when hans solo uses the word parsects as a mesurement of time when it is actually a unit of distance, so with no acurate mesurement of star wars weponry I think it is safe to assume that they are about equal.

and as for the death star, although it would take out a few federation outposts it would be intercepted and destroyed long befor it could get to earth, and although a hit from the death star would destroy federation ships it would never be able to hit one, it takes a while to fire and in that time any ship would detect the energy build up and move out of the way, and as for retargeting, it is the size of a moon, you can imagine that it would be pretty slow turning, and the federation ships would eventually detect the uncoverd, unshielded, strait and narrow vent (just big enough to fit a photon torpedo) leading directly into the most critical system, and if you dont think they could make the shot just watch star trek VI and there you have a death star weak spot seeking torpedo

and as for ground combat those laser rifles that storm troopers use can only shoot one person at a time but the phaser rifles have a wide beam dispersol setting that could take out an entier room full of storm troopers in 1 shot

that's pretty much my view on it, lets discuss

Star Wars would win, simply because I know more about Star Wars than I do Star Trek.

Star Trek easily

Phasers do more damage then fucking little lasers and there ships are way more advanced then in Star Wars. Then again Death Star vs Star trek Ships. that would be tricky.

also the fact i know so much about Sci-Fi scares me sometimes.

actually I dont think the death star would be too much of a problem, could you honestly expect something the size of a moon to hit lets say an intrepid class ship (voyger) and I dought that unshielded vent would be missed be the scanners.

if all goes to worst we could always mass produce genises torpedos, I'd like to see them try to compete with that kind of fire power

The Borg cube would take over all the controlls of the Death Star before Wilhuff Tarkin would know shit about what was going on.

You know, I thought this was going to be a reasonably intelligent discussion about the underlying principles and storytelling strengths of each franchise. Now I'm just ashamed of humanity.

Neither, I've never watched either of them and it's not because I haven't got around to it... it's because they're both shit and not deserving of a thread, in my opinion. About the only good thing about Star Wars is KOTOR, even then it didn't blow my socks off and I didn't walk away with much knowledge of Star Wars lore.

If we're talking about storytelling strengths, check out Red Letter Media's reviews of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy and Star Trek films.

For the record, Original Star Wars Trilogy is better than any Star Trek in my eyes.

Star Wars has Harrison Ford

Star Trek has Patrick Stewart

This is what it boils down to.

Trainwreck Syndrome. Fair enough.

This doesn't improve my opinion of Star Trek.

I'm still of the opinion that Shatner's music career was tongue in cheek.

Anyway, if the prequel films were never made, it would be a difficult conversation, but since they were, it isn't.

Star Trek.

Sisko over Picard any day.

Seriously.

Deep Space Nine is the only Star Trek show that I consistently wouldn't miss when it was airing.

I've never watched Star Trek, so Star Wars. The prequels do, unfortunately, suck, however.
