Oddbox for mac

Im afraid to tell you this, but it looks as if the "elitist mac snobs" have arrived at your forum. Before I make this request, let me give you a bit of background.

About a year ago, my 360 got the red ring of death. While it was away at the shop, I blew off the dust on my original xbox and took a trip to gamestop. I had remembered hearing about Stranger's Wrath a long time ago, and had heard really good things about it, but ultimately never got it. Deciding to make up for this mistake, i bought it at once and came home to pop it in.

I was simply amazed. Strangers wrath was so incredibly amazing, that as soon as the final cutscene ended, i went right back to the main menu to start a new game. Everything...the setting, the characters, the gameplay, the plot... My mind was blown away.

So right now i am in the process of getting Munch's oddysee. I can't wait to play it. I have high hopes for it that i am sure won't be let down. But when i heard about the Oddbox, AND the fact that valve has decided to bring steam to mac later this month, my heart melted. The first two oddworld games are something that i simply must play. Considering that Stranger's wrath was just a SPINOFF, i can only imagine how good the first two must be.

So, basically, I am pleading for Oddworld inhabitants to port the Oddbox to the native mac client of steam that will be coming in a few weeks. I know that the process will be a long one, but i am willing to wait for a very long time.

Sure we can help him, if you have an intel mac we'll just port the sucker through wine. It usually takes about an hour. Mission accomplished. (No guarantees but it does work most of the time)

*winces* I'm just going to leave you with this gameplay video and let you make up your own mind, mmkay? =P

(Munch sucked terribly because they changed platforms mid-way through development. It wasn't anywhere near as good as it should've been. At least they made it up to us with Stranger, but yeesh. Compare that vid with the beta vids. . .)

*ahem* Anyway if you want any PC game to run on the Mac, I'm afriad you'll probably have to use some sort of Windoze emulation. Hopefully though if Steam has already been released for the Macintosh, perhaps developers will slowly release ports of their games for it too.

As an American, I'm unsure what "posh" means...I'm assuming something along the lines of "over-dignified."

Ignore the guy who said Munch's Oddysee was crap. Yes, it was originally planned to be even better, but nevertheless it's still a great game.

There's definitely a possibility of that happening, then it again it might not be in the near future or maybe not even at all. I hope it will though... tired of booting my mac into windows.

Steam is coming to Mac, but the only games they've announced to be ported are the ones made by Valve themselves. The reason is that Valve have recreated the Source engine for Mac; games that use other engines won't automatically become playable on the Mac.

Albetta, why do you want the Oddbox on Mac? You have an Xbox and PS1s are pretty cheap.

Whoa, can we have a bit less off topic here guys?

Anyway, as Nate said, not every Steam game is going to work on Mac, and I don't see who is going to do the extra work to make the games compatible. So I' wouldn't hold my breath on this one...

There are people already doing work to bring the games to new platforms, so the question isn't really who could do it, but will they and, if so, when?

But these are Oddworld games we're talking about, so you can never expect a when question to be answered accurately.

Oh...that's great but, instead of spending all that money on a mac knowing that u won't be able to change any pieces from it with the exception of adding RAM
u won't be able to change ure graphics card, ure Processor, etc. and it's a lot of money
and a very good alternative is:
U can get a super strong PC at the half of it's price!
I mean check this out,nVidia released some special stereoscopic glasses that let u play ure games, see pictures and movies in 3D! And all the pieces together cost half of the price of a mac!

nVidia GeForce 3D Vision Glasses Requirements:
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/GeFor...ements_uk.html
nVidia Graphics cards(newest is GTX480 and 470):
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/geforce_family_uk.html
also u need windows vista or windows 7 to work, not compatible with XP
and for windows 7 u need at least 2-3 GB of Ram to work properly cuz it's very consuming, but I just got Windows 7 and it's great, it looks and feels great
And also u need a 3D Vision compatible monitor, there is a monitor from samsung which is very new and it's nvidia 3d glasses compatible:
The Samsung 2233RZ 3D Monitor 22"
Also nvidia adds daily games to it's compatibility list rated from excellent to
not recommended
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/GeFor..._Games_uk.html

also here's a review of the glasses:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLImrYqLsIA

Try searching for the prices of each piece u require to make ure PC 3d compatible and then make a total sum of the prices and compare it to the price of an average mac

Thats some very good info.
But, people have their own reasons for buying the hardware of there choice, both PC and MAC are very capable machines. Please leave the "money" or "why would you game on a mac" questions out of it .

As an answer to Nate's when:

I think when depends on how successful valves move to include mac will be + how successful the oddbox would sell on the pc part.

Lets first hope that it gets released on the pc part, shall we

Apparently Steam will make the 3 party games for mac but not the older ones as of its low graphics and its compatibility (windows 95/98)

so that rules out Oddworld...

You might want to rethink that..if they're gonna port to mac/linux that means they have all the game source etc so they CAN port it.

If the game is older / 2D then it should be easier cause you dont need a graphics card, all the drawing can be done in software on the CPU since people have fast CPUs these days.

Porting a 3D newer game would be much much harder since you'd need to port DirectX to OpenGL and convert all the shaders and so on.

Also from seeing how the 2D oddworld games work it should just be a case of replacing the C PS1 emulator code with a version that uses a software rendering engine (SDL would be an easy choice!).
