Hue's Diary of Creatures

Kronickle 1 - Training the Slog

Day One

Upon finding the slog I captured from the recently explored Paramonian wastes, I set it up in my laboratory in a more than courteously sized cage, the slog spends most of it's time barking and gnawing at the bars. Since I have just started as a junior scientist I started small. This slog will the base of my studies and may help me find the cure for the troubling and increasingly rampant disease,
Gorman Disenza. I have hired an intern called Carl, his lips are ready stitched and he has a keen eye for science, more so than I have seen in other interns, I confiscated his headphones much to his displeasure but promised him wages and the possibility to earn his freedom.

I am situated in the small industrial hub outside Fee-co depot, Gizmotech. My shop is located in the run down area on the fringe. Thankfully I managed to steer clear of the conglomerates, maybe a large profit will be my future. What with the sudden abundance of gabbit eggs and the explosion of the airhendrix vykker balloon, that should remove at least some competition I hear valuable elum studies where destroyed in the fires.

Day 2 - studies begin

I have run a few simple probing tests today on my slog, I realise it is in fact a he and is in it's early stages, I cannot find any slog bestiaries so I assume there are non, not even the library held information. Perhaps we take them for granted. I have also realised it's different skin pigmentation possibly due to it's lack fof sunlight in it's native habitat, therefore I categorise it as Lazulus Rex or Lazarus Dog! A new species. I decide not to dispose of it after I am done with it, rather to sell it at auction for a reasonable price. Oh yes and a shipment of test fuzzles are on the way. I'm delighted.

Path of the Intern had lots of scientist segments. Intern Radio isn't that much about science.

It is a possibility anyway i'm writing now so here goes:

Kronickle 1

Day five

Well, the test fuzzles arrived and I have scavenged a burner, at first I was reluctant to test on the fuzzles but soon I was like any other doc, I kept the first one alive but it's very pale and it's hair has long fallen out, perhaps fuzzles are entirely carinverous meaning that the vegetable steroids I inject them just don't cut it. It is much to my dissapointment that the slog I found is in fact a categorised species, little is known about it however and it is a missing link between the slog and the sleg, found in different areas of Oddworld. It was originally conceived that in fact the two could be different species entirely simply misnamed around five hundred years ago but a study by A Doc. Quirlia (note the doctor was a mudokon freed from slavery who had had past experience with sleg training) found the two where distantly related.

I have derived some conclusions about slog life cycle and I will write it in my next post along with some basic illustrations. I am also pioneering in a new medical treatment for brain damage and head trauma caused by repetitive smacks (a good idea for those industries that employ sligs) I am looking for a name, I like Thwack-away but I am looking to ask the general public at a rally today (note the implications OWF.)

In other notes, I have sold a few concoctions and made about three hundred moolah, I am thinking about sending Carl on an expoddition to Paramonia (more on that next entry) to bring me back a few specimens, hopefully a paramite and maybe a few slurgs which I can use to breed and feed the fuzzles (perhaps that's a name of a product Breed 'n' feed.)

More next time

I like to think that meeches are not extinct, only hiding.
Um, slogs are indeed rrelated to slegs, but Slogs are domesticated like dogs, while Slegs are wild like wolves. AND nice nod towards slegs!
I can't wait to hear about the paramites! I hear they spin webs like spiders and squeal like pigs!

Ok I know this is long awaited sorry, and sorry there's no slog pictures.

Day eight

Well the slog kicked the bucket! I never got to make my charts but I have managed to deduce the following life cycle without dates or ages

Sloglet 1st trimester
Sloglet 2nd trimester
Sloggie
Slog
Slog Elderly
Dead Slog

Not really interesting however, what's interesting is the remarkable bacterium that killed the slog, once again there are know records detailing or logging what I have found, not even a similarity so this is a first analysis,

The bacterium found in the slog I have currently defined as beSK1.1,
it is unrelated to other specimens and is possibly a one of a kind, it's structure is quite amazing because it has the uncanny ability to reproduce at a rate of x2 > 10 minutes, more so interesting is that it can share DNA and RNA strands by allowing another bacteria to be absorbed, in it's vacuole it removes proteins and adds them to it's complex ribo-nucleic structure . This is the likely reason why it is uncatalogued, I have found it in it's slog form but it can easily be passed on to other species through DNA change, this begs th question as to why it isn't on a pandemic scale in every species on oddworld, perhaps it cannot resist our own immune system attacks. Slogs are known to have poor immunities to diseases. Could I have also found a possible cause of Gorman Disenza?

In other notes I sent out Carl to southland paramonia to capture me some specimens, I hope he's alright!

Carl's Diary - Day 1 of exploration

I hate my stitch lips, I am saving up to have them removed, today they almost got me killed! I spent most of today on a Fee Co train from the depot all the way to Paramonia Hub 264. The ride was quite poor since the track goes into disrepair about one hundred miles before you reach the station. After the journey I was met by a greeter, amazingly it still worked and was not the deranged, manacle robot that most are these days. Perhaps the fact that it was chained up stopped it from attacking. Anyway, I got directions to where I would be staying, apparently a small village mostly inhabited by native mudokons gone semi-industrialist, freelancers if you will. Oh and the brew out here is awful, no soul storm, I had to take pure nicotine just to keep my cravings down. There's this really crappy stuff instead called expresso, a picture of a mudokon sprinting on the cover gave me the idea it was a perk up. Well it certainly didn't perk me up.

With no guide I simply followed the narrow wooden causeways high above the canopy of the trees towards the village. armed only with a small stick to lever myself up the steeper parts, I trekked for about an hour until I heard a growling noise, much to my dismay I was met by a ferocious looking fleech. Not like the typical green ones pet glukkons get but a grey one, perhaps because it was native? Well I din't stop to think to long for it tried to grab me with it's tongue. Me. An intern. Who spends his life carrying the wretched things, I grabbed my stick and shoved it deep down the back of it's throat. It gagged and got stuck, I then spent the next fifteen minutes trying ot get it into a specimen jar still alive, I hope I get a bloody raise for this!

Ok,
Carl's Diary
Day 2 of exploration

Hmm where to begin, well I put the flaming fleech into he blasted jar and sent it post haste back to Hue via the Chronicler Post Network, yes even out here on the fringe of society, we have the post office, blessed be. The small shack I'm staying in mimics the design of a clakker house. Don't like it one bit, I like to distance myself from those yocals (get it yocals...yoke oh dear) simply because they are annoying and fail at industrialism but the mudokon that owns the hut said that I'm lucky to have a hut and that I'm the first intern he's seen, treated me like a bloody alien it did!

Back out to exploring soon, I here there's some real good hunting around but the mudokons won't let me, I'm sure they'll see my way once I load up my snuzi, haw haw!
_______________________________________________________________________________
Hue
Day 10

Well, I got Carl's first sample back and I am intrigued, the care he must have taken to get the darling creature back in one piece and still alive, of course it made the task of killing it for processing harder but it's the thought that counts. The creature is not like the other fleeches I have seen, the ones bred in fleech kennels are green with a grey tint but these are strangely white! probably due to being under the canopy of the vast trees for so long, I also noticed the skeletal make up is odd, where as a fleech has little bone besides it's spinal cord and double cranium, the "Feral Fleech" has a more bulky spine and what appears to be the beginnings of a rib cage, simple in design but amazingly, we have caught evolution in action! Popular suspicions have been confirmed that in fact there are native versions of the popular flushable fleech! Well I must tell the Daily Deception and make myself some moolah. Another intriguing thing is that industrial methods of creating and altering life forms are undeveloped much more than we originally thought, if beings do not evolve or advance after artificial editing then perhaps we are caught in a loop where very little is gained!!! My mind is reeling! MORE SOON!
