E3 and beyond first hand looks

The first game of my behind closed door looks from E3 and beyond is

Project EGO: So where to begin. I can probably only repeat all you have already heard, but another opinion is always good for the most part.

Peter Molyneux, just that name exudes brilliance, anyone really into gaming knows this. And if not you soon will. He now has a powerful toy in the XBOX,and he likes to use it's power, as you can already see in shots and discriptions of early looks of this soon to be epic roleplaying gem.

It is actually sooo much more than a roleplaying game,it's like known other,it's unique blend of many gaming aspects give us something totally fresh and revolutionary.

You begin the game as a 15 year old boy or girl, no other choices, that's it,big deal you say.Well hold on now, this character will become anything you desire, anything, it's up to you. You can go for the large muscle type hero's or the wizard type character. It's up to you, work out your muscles for strength, or your mind for those spells.Become a thief, anything you're gaming heart desires.

Anything is possible the player determines all, the course of the character's action is all your decisions. You stay in the sun too long you get extra wrinkles, you miss a shave at the local inn and you're beard gets longer.Every detail is in this game.Every step you take is a unique step. They say that when you step upon a sapling it will cease to exist. If you plant one and then come back many years later it will be a tree to be used in whatever way possible.Oh yes they also state that when you use spells you lose your hair, so ease up on that usage of spells. Unless you don't give a D---, and just want to be a kickass bald spellcaster and forget about the hair.

You can carve you're initials into a tree and then return at a later date and still see them there.People will revere you as a hero or if you are evil they will be frightened.People see you as you are, whatever it is you have made of yourself, they will sing songs of your deeds, they will flee from your presence in fear, it all depends on you. If you are wounded in battle the scar may not heal all the way, and years later you can show them off to your grandkids and let them know of which battle and where you acquired it.Yes you can have a wife or wifes, kids ,they all grow old as well. You can choose to be very old with this character and evolve from that same 15 year old.

Another great aspect is that you can do it all over again in a totally different way, replayabilty is second to none in this game as well, it's all up to you.An online component is also planned for the XBOX. They say that the game will not work well with the PC keyboard and mouse, so expect it to be XBOX exclusive. You can play your character in freinds "worlds" and vice versa, with a cartridge of some kind, we shall see more on this soon.

The game adapts to you,it all depends on you.The realistic graphics allow you to become immersed in the game, beautiful scenery done with high end modeling techniques, no longer 2D backdrops with pixeled looks. The draw distance is perfect as well, you can go in any direction and explore to your hearts content. The graphics will get even better with time, everything is just spotless, the A.I.,graphics, gameplay, innovation, everything is spot on already.Just imagine in another 15-17 months.

This is also a ever evolving world, all your actions are taken into account. For example if you leave town for a few years and come back things have evolved. If you beat someone to death and come back now you may have certain enemies you had better look out for. Or if you saved many people from some beast years ago and now return you will be adored. You name it and than some and all is possiblwThe NPC's in the game are non static, they respond in different ways in any situation thrown at them. These NPC's will react to you by your appearance or reputation, all depending again on you and your styles of play.

Another thing mentioned was that NPC's will even begin to exxagerate about your deeds, sometimes stating for example that you killed 10 beasts instead of just the two.And that will go the other way as well, so as you see the Artificial intelligence has come a long way thanks to the sweet XBOX.A new speech system was also mentioned,it will allow characters to act in a proper way according to your actions, no more repeating the same things over and over.

There is just sooo much more we shall learn from this game,it is already an epic, it's a no brainer ,this game has so much more coming in info ,like creatures, lands to visit and explore, tasks, adventures, challenges, on and on. Anything I hear from anywhere on this title I will report to all you faithful XBOXERS. The only downer on this title is it's not coming this Fall, but at least it is coming someday. And anyway we got lots of other titles to look forward to. Bottomline: It's in my top 5, and that's saying a lot, I've got a ton of games that will be killer titles coming, so many games that are just soo much better overall than what we have played thus far, the next-gen of gaming is almost upon us finally.

WOW, that's only good news! (Even the release, we need time to play Munch too heh!)
Sounds like a good Chrismas present for 2002.

You said those magic words ... EXPLORE!!! That always hooks me in!!!

Very RPG... which I like... and major re-playability... which I also like. I love when a game will change... and I really like this concept that a lot of games are doing now where something you do early in a game will have an impact on it later in the game (Munch of course has this concept also).

As much as I love Final Fantasy, the current FF games are very linear, in that no matter what decision you make, you nearly always come back to the same thing, just in a different way (there are some exceptions to this however). This sounds like a RPG which certainly takes the genre to a different level.

I think my list of possible Xbox games to get is getting longer!

Abe Babe...

Thanks my Belgian bro Oddipus. And of course to the lady of gaming Abe Babe. And you're list shall keep growing Abe Babe, you'll seeeeeeee.

You can read further if you like, but let me tell you that Oddworld has found there home with XBOX.They are a perfect couple. To play the game is everything one would hope, and then some.It is a perfect blend of unique gaming with true old fashioned gameplay, and that's just the beginning. There is nothing like playing it and I will be doing so November 8TH no doubt about it.

The first thing to say would be that this game is the most original of all games, in my opinion. It is a launch title and it is again like I already have stated will be running in my XBOX November 8TH.

There are a couple things that I'd like to talk about that some people may not know of yet. One of them is that there are a possible 200+ hours of gaming in this sweet game. That would be about 3 times longer than the two first 2D side-scrollers combined. That's if you check out all the nooks and crannies.Another is there has been some talk at Oddworld internally of an "EDIT" mode, a possible create character or other ideas that they are not letting on yet that invovle Editing.

With DirectX 8 in place, Munch’s Odysee can also utilize bump-mapping, reflection-mapping, sharp textures, you get higher poly counts, the game can now run on true dynamic lighting, something never done at this level, and with up to 64MB of vram storing information such as maps, data, polygons, and animation are a breeze thanks to the power of the XBOX.

The game's main storyline is a double quest in search for the last jar of Gabbit caviar and to save the Mudokon mom. With this last bottle of Gabbit cavier, Munch the last of the Gabbits can save the Gabbit 's from extinction. As the story goes Munch is captured and taken to the Vykker’s laboratory for research and development. You can see Munch riding a gurney into a surgery room, written on his head is "cut here",without going to deep in more details Abe comes to the rescue, and they form a partnership.

Now you can choose who you would like to play at any given time, deciding which character would be best at the appropriate time.now at first Munch has a broken leg, so Abe pushs him in his wheelchair, but eventually munch rips around in that same wheelchair. The two do not get along due to Munch believing Abe has kidnapped him instead of rescueing him. This goes on for a good chunk of the game.

Munch is amphibious, and is spectacular in the water.Water areas are his strong point. But that's not all by a long shot. Munch has a "skull jack" that has been implanted in his head, he is able to control any machinery and let’s you the player take control of that machinery.Abe can control creatures as in the two previous games.Abe has some new toys as well, a item called a "Blitz Packer", some sort of machine guns.real cool and many unique types to choose from. power-ups are also everywhere,in the form of vending machines, there's an expresso machine which doubles your speed, bubble gum that allows you to bounce off and walk on walls, more machines as well to help you build you're stamina for climbing, and strength inhancers.

The outdoor environment's are massive! the indoor ones are beautifully rendered with true dynamic lighting, many locals refineries, haunted locals, it's very expansive indeed. You can feel it's size, it feels alive as you play, screenshots just cannot convey it's vastness and depth to details.

A perfect example of platform adventuring at its best, obstacles, puzzles, smooth animation is in top form as well, they have motion captured every thing in the world it seems. The camera is also extremely solid,. It seamlessly transitions as you move Abe or Munch around the game,It anticipate's the best possible angle for the action for each moment perfectly, no issues here, which can and has been a concern in 3D games.Teamwork is the key to success,in solving all the games very original puzzles, some of the best i've seen and there are tons of them not just one or two nice ones.Abe has tasks that enable Munch to perform tasks and then together they move on. Very well thought of puzzles no switch or key simplicity here.

Abe's a dork, an anti-hero, Munch is the last of his race, together they make beautiful music somehow, and that's what makes the game extra speacial. One thing I love is the sneaking, the stealth in this game is top notch. For example I snuck behind a Slig, a machine gun using beast, picked him up from behind and walked over to a large disposal unit and threw him in,very funny outcomes follow these type antics, and there are dozens of them. Don't forget it can be a 200+ hour game if played to the hilt.I also threw one out one slig a very high window of a building, on and on like this, it's just great. The game is about sneaking, dirty tricks, and getting the jump on their foes.just out and out fun with a very high level of graphics and A.I.

Gamespeak: Will be a larger variety of commands, and even greater interaction between characters. With many more commands available to the player, more details are coming, not all has been implemented thus far, or at least there not saying for the moment.

The Hand of Odd, an online multiplayer game that will let you explore the Oddworld universe with other gamers is up next, and actually in developement.

Then Squeek's Oddysee, the next in the planned lineup, this series is just getting started, and I for one will be playing Munch and Abe this November 8th on my new shiny XBOX.

I got some news on another title, just a bit but something to keep you're mind open to.It's Toxic Bunny 2. A very strange but unique game. It's by Twilyt productions.

There seem to be no boundaries to the game it just flows on and on .The environments are impressive. To me it seems to be what the old legend Earthworm Jim would be like now in the Next-gen of gaming.

Basically his coffee has been stolen from the evil protagonist in this game, this freaked out bunny isnt going to take it lightly either. He goes out to kick some arse. And he has many weapon options at his disposal. One weapon is called the "Van Schticket", and others that will be just as fun to use as the names suggest.

This game is a surprise to me, it's very much Earthworm Jim like to me, but just Jim in the future, very weird and off the wall but done with a nice attention to detail, not gaudy or simple.Toxic will find a number of things called DNA capsules. With these he gets various mutant powers, you become loads of very fun mutant creatures with great power just for you're pleasure.

The game has puzzles to solve as well as pure action, from what I have witnessed they are quite complicated and detailed, not your average switch and key type. The levels also are very long or vast, another plus, and these were just the starter levels.Toxic also speaks out as he fights with very funny saying's like "How do like that punk".The camera's also seemed smooth, always a concern in the old days of 3D, but there looking better all the time,as this games shows. And I'll tell you even on the mighty XBOX this game shines above many other already good looking games in the graphics department.

From weapons that can take out entire rooms to great graphics and deep puzzles and large terrains to explore this game is top notch, and a real surprise.

With Munch,Malice,Shrek and Toxic Bunny2, the action platformer Mario type games are here for the BOX in full force. Just another reason to love your new XBOX this Fall.

Oddipus, you are going to be broke this year in that case. The problem here is that there are too many great games coming, far beyond what we have yet see,but it's a good problem, is'nt it. Here's another look at a game that is very nice and should be considered. Abe bbabe you will be interested in this as well.

Morrowind the Elder scrolls 3. Very open-ended world. The Elder Scroll series has free-form play style and wide-open, 3D game world. It's an old school RPG, the game begins with a multi-faceted character creation process you can tweak your stats and skills. There are plenty of classes and races to choose from too.You can be a straight arrow or visit you're dark side by becoming a hired assassin, thief or worse. You can use the magic system from Daggerfall, which lets you learn new spells, but combine them to create new, varied effects in almost a limitless variety.

There are stunning graphics and an open-ended structure for all of your decisions. You're actions will change the outcome of the game so no two games will be alike. You can also create any type character you wish, any, so that's a very great thing as well. With this replay value soars through the roof. And ABEBABE, you get to "EXPLORE,and EXPLORE to you're hearts content.

When talking within the game you're actions are dealt with accordingly. Negative coments towards a certain group will be dealt with by that group. Positive and negative actions are all dealt with in the proper circumstance. the A.I. in this game works overtime to have to compensate for the infinite possibilities.People will fear you, respect you, bow down to you, attempt to kill you, or recruit you for various reasons.

At the moment everyone is into Project-Ego, and rightfully so,but it's coming in Fall 2002.Elder scrolls 3 is coming this Fall and it has tons of ammo to back it up. As it stands for now and this Fall I would say it will be the best Roleplaying experience ever. Well until Project Ego gets here in 2002 to try to dethrone it.

You have total freedom to explore as you see fit. It's a perfect game coming to a perfect new system that they too are very excited to be working on.

Bethesda Softworks has a real gem, and we all have a great game coming ,and it will keep us happily busy until Ego gets here. And I would not be surprised in some peoples opinions that it will be even better in the long run, it's that good.

It's breathtaking, and unique, and if there is someone out there a little dissapointed that Ego is only coming in late 2002 dont fret any longer, because this title is coming from a top notch company this year. It's the Ego of 2001.

So keep your eyes open for it, its going to be on my list,it's true next-gen action roleplaying at it's best.Have fun exporing ABE BABE, keep cool.

E3 Azurik look

I would like to give some of my thoughts on "AZURIK". This game is either near the top of everyones lists or in everyone's "I just dont know what to think right now mode".

In my opinion it should be near the top of peoples lists. Now let me tell you I'm neutral, if this game stinks or is so-so, I'm not going to waste your time or mine. Now let me tell you why I think it's going to be one of the better ones coming this Fall.

This game is all about protecting the four sacred elements from evil.Azurik is a 3D 3rd person action adventure,It does have a similar feel to SoulReaver, however it is small, once you actually see it and run with it the comparisons are few and really unlike one another. The game is full of exploration, puzzles and out and out action.

There are four areas in the game, however these are divided into many mini areas or sections.Flat textures are a thing of the past with the new power of the XBOX,the artists can now multi-layer textures to add realsim not seen in games thus far.Lava flows and waterfalls are done very well also with this technique and add great depth to there appearance. All these added details to this game and others coming on the BOX really add to the "IMMERSION" level, and really give you a sense of being within these game worlds.

Azurik is sworn to protect the sacred elements of water, earth, fire, and air.Basically Azurik must stop an apocalyptic prophecy, and so goes off on a amazing journey. The environments are gigantic, they stretch on and on, giving the game a true epic feel.Another thing is that there are no loading screens, you just keep on exploring no pauses, all due to the XBOX hard drive. The particle effects are done in top notch form, the shading too is done in true next gen fashion, I was very much impressed with it when I saw it live.

The thing that really impressed me the most was the examples of "particle physics",to explain this I will give an example, creatures that attack all have a very high level of A.I.,they can merge with each other to pose as a much greater foe, this is where "particle physics" come in, these creatures in this game will sense defeat, they will then run off to get reinforcements,or seperate from one another and then circle you, bait you, call on other beasts to help them in there cause. No more drones in games, that's where I believe the XBOX will benefit the most, A.I. is the most important aspect and the greatest advance with the power of the XBOX, not graphics, however those too are taking great leaps.

There are a variety of attacks at you're disposal, you 'll need them, because the creatures in this game are relentless and clever.A great weapon is called the the Axion with the four elmental forces, you will have to power up this weapon at the correct time and know which is the best for every given situation. For example if you attack a fire enemy with a fire weapon it will just help the fire enemy out with more power, and that's with all the games creatures as well, you must know you're weapons nd foes in all situations. The gameplay also changes with the time of day, for example when night comes those innocent little animals you saw earlier in the day become major threats.

I liked this game at Gamestock, it did seem a little void of creatures and a bit isolated, and this too is because of the sheer immensity of the play areas. But now these mostly empty areas are teaming with action and threats to go along with the already great intuitive puzzles within this game. The creature animation is very well done, if they are tumbling or rolling or jumping, it's all very smooth. Azurik however can use a little more smoothness to his animation, this of course is a very nit-picked comment, because he is good just not excellent like the rest of the game. But of course this is coming as well. Lips syncing is also done perfectly to dialogue, eyes look in the right direction while the characters talked, another very polished thing about this game.

Well I hope I helped you in getting a better idea of this game, it really should be considered as one of the top options this Fall, just keep you're eyes peeled for more info on it.I have seen it in action and have it on my top 20 list, and with sooo many great ones coming in the next year and a half that's saying a lot. There is more polish to be added to this game so it will be even better than what we are seeing of it at the moment, not that it really needs it.As for Fall 2001 you will be hard pressed to find many games better than this one. So what do you think? You getting Asurik or still in holding pattern?
