Some 3D stuff

Here is an Abe's Exoddus Bonewerkz-style scene I've made using 3DS Max. Ofcause it needs alot of cleen-up. I'm planning to use this when I'll have some time to code an engine for my oddworld game, maybe if February or March, and I'll be making levels for it.

That looks pretty sweet. But aren't the bricks in boneworks more brownish?

Yes. The bricks at the Bonewerkz were much more brownish, but this wasn't ment to be Bonewerkz - it's gonna a concrete production plant, but in the same half-ruined style of Bonewerkz.

Tidus

The light is omni with advanced ray tracing plus dim skylight. Still I don't like those crappy sharp shadowing intersections, I'm finding a way to remove them.

I'm planning to make a game sort like Abe's Oddysee around February or March, when I'll have holidays after the exams. Maybe someone have any ideas of interesting level designs and puzzles?

Ideas? Well, haven't you planned to remake Abe's Oddysee? Well it's illegal, but you can get inspired by that..

Technically, making ANY game using any oddworld characters, names, places, or words is IP infringement and is illegal, regardless of what you will be doing with the final outcome.

no matter if it's illegal or not, you're not the first one, - As long as you don#t do it for money I think it's ok, I mean if making a fangame (for free) is really illegal than drawing fanart and stuff is illegal too, no?

I'm gonna make this game just for pleasure not for waging money. I'm just somewhat very keen on Oddworld and want to make a game that will be more or less editable for fans. So I'll get coding the engine in holidays after the examinations session so be patient ! I'll be probably only able to code the engine and make several levels due to temporal limitations then I'm going to pass the level-making over to the community (if i'll make some very basic level editor), or at least level-designing.
I still can't consider wether I'll be making a 2D-gameplay 3D graphics game or just custom 2D with sprites and pre-rendered backgrounds, like Abe's Oddysee (which is considerably easier to code end to edit). Coding even the most basic 3D engine on C++ is a lot of pain-in-@ss and is very time-consuming, while 2D won't take much time and efforts. Also if I consider making a 3D game I'll need some help with living characters (low-poly, ofcause) ans I'm not too good in modelling and animating lifeforms. Also 3D game probably won't allow very complicated movie-quality backgrounds (due to system resourses issues).

I say go with 2D. 2D is much cooler. Besides it's way less effort and it would be more remniscent of the first two Oddworld Games.

I think It'd be more efficient to make the new models from scratch rather than screwing around and loosing time with ripping Munch Oddysee file formats. But if someone have time to do this it would be good.

Yes, rust is adding great effect. Besides I'm going to make a free-fire zone with a ruined old part of factory with rusty armature and metal walls, ruined brick pillars, severed pipes etc.

Here is a Scrabania scene I've drawn rescently, I've put several prefab plants there but I'll replace them with scrabanian cacti later... Now I'm learning how to make fog and clouds to make it look more realistic...
