The interview is over now, it was pretty interesting but mainly about Digital Art (as expected). I was able to follow the keynote thanks to Ryan Shrout from PC Perspective who filmed the whole thing live. He even took two pictures of Lorne simply because I nicely asked him.

Lorne didn't drop any hints about his current projects (or if he did I couldn't understand them as the sound wasn't that good). An interesting tibit was that he showed the Beyond Good and Evil 2 trailer as an example of what was possible using tools developed by the gaming industry (again if I understood it correctly).

Crappy pics I took from the live video.

Oooo, he's growing his hair out.
yep he's got nice hair...

:
Next up is Lorne Lanning who is an American game designer, writer, voice actor and animated film director. He is also co-founder and president of the video game developer, Oddworld Inhabitants. He is best known for creating the Oddworld series and talked about a game development in general.

He talked about digital art, Good and Evil 2 from Ubisoft and had a demo that he showed those at the keynote. Lorne says the idea of a text medium and even a computer screen is a bit backwards and followed that up by saying in the future students will be handing in movies rather than reports in school. Pretty far out thoughts here looking at how the economy around the world is doing right now.

EDIT: a couple of new reports:

:
Lorne Lanning -- film director and founder of Oddworld. He talked about software like Maya and Soft3D as tools to shape objects and render / raytrace the most awesome photo's by artists. They take principles of physics, start to tweak them into impossible realities. Materials of impossibilities. Things that shape an artificial world How does physics functions in zero-gravity .. stuff like that. The interesting reality that he evangelizes it to use these dataset in games. Going beyond 3D and utilizing that in games and from games to movies ..

:
Lorne Lanning, creator of Oddworld, showed a variety of digital art works and discussed the future of digital fine arts, how they are being influenced by science and physics in their creation of impossible worlds, and how in turn science is gaining inspiration from the art.

Holy shit! I sent him the link to that trailer the day it first came out because I thought he'd like it for those reasons. He should have credited me... to a group of strangers who don't know who I am.

Wow really? You must feel pretty good

Anyway it seems Ubisoft perfectly understood what Lorne is talking about. They really are merging movies and games together, they even bought Hybride Technologies (special effects for Sin City and 300) to make movies based on their franchises. For those who didn't know, Ubisoft opened their own animation studio in 2007.

BTW I bought Beyond Good and Evil 1 a month ago because of this trailer (and the fact you said it was awesome), I still have to play it but I still have on exam left before I can.

Anyway the reports just keep flowing in my mailbox:

:
Showcasing some digital art, Lorne Lanning, creator of Oddworld, wowed the audience with images of what, in most cases, looked more like massive, complex, multicoloured bacteria than anything else, but don't get us wrong, it was spectacular.
