New "Oddworld stuff" confirmed!

Hello!

My name is Matt, I have been an Oddworld fan since the first game was released on the Playstation and have always been interested in any news about the series (which is not often in recent years).

So when I was browsing on the internet and I found this article, I just had to sign up to share this news but this is my first post here on the forum so I'm sure this is all old news anyway.

Lorne Lanning, president of Oddworld Inhabitants, has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that the studio is working on new game based on the highly-regarded Oddworld franchise. "I can confirm that we're working with Jeff on Oddworld stuff, but that's all I can say at this time," offered Lanning.

The date of the article isn't too old either, enjoy!

Still it's better then no news, I can't find anything more recent to say they have cancelled there plans already, so it's something to look forward too!

I'm pretty sure it has, I'm not sure why people think its not confirmed, I think the latest news is Oddworld Inhaditants is working with Maxis on new Oddworld game or something related.

I started looking into Maxis after I read that and there new project "Spore" is awsome, it has a great Oddworld feel to it and I think they would make good team if it happens!

No. Lorne is working with Jeff Braun. Braun co-founded Maxis, but left almost a decade ago. This has nothing to do with Maxis. Both Lorne and Braun have said they are working on an Oddworld game, but any game made by Oddworld Inhabitants is an ‘Oddworld game’, whether it’s set on Oddworld or in the Citizen Siege universe. That’s the trouble with a company sharing a name with just one of its IPs.

I see, I didnt realise Jeff Braun was no longer with Maxis.

Even so I think there new venture 'Spore' does have a very 'Oddworld' feel to it, even though they aren't linked I remember having that feeling when I spotted it like "I've not seen that before!", there obviously companys with similer taste, most likely from Jeff Brauns influence in the early years I hope, so that partner ship makes sence...

Then again (dare I say it), I was never a fan of 'TheSims' so that's a worry!

Was Jeff even ever on board with The Sims? And seriously, he's not inexorably tied down to the styles of his old company. Also Lorne's working on it, so it's going to go his way or no way.

Also Jeff is a game producer, not a game designer. He’s working with Lorne in that capacity.

Another point I wanted to make is that Maxis makes god sims where you are in absolute power of everything, controlling a customizable world without characters, story, a message, or any sense of danger. OWI makes adventure games where you are at the bottom of the food chain, all odds against you, in a pre-planned, character-driven story with a message.

Well, as far as I remember, in The Sims there was a chance at some point of getting robbed or kidnapped by aliens, and there's also the posibility of fire in the house...
