2D or 3D

What do you prefer 2D or 3D? For the people or other who don't know what 2D and 3D is, 2D is when you can only move forwards, backwards,up and down. 3D is Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath. I prefer 2D for some reason.

I prefer the 2D games although the 3D ones are still just as good.

I prefer 2D, especially in Abe's Exoddus. It's the best that a PS1 2D game can offer you. In Abe's Exoddus the movies, the game and the characters are perfect and the errors minimum. Oddworld in 3D is not bad, but it has to improve many thing, for example the characters (they are little squared), the territory (it is little squared too), ect. But it isn't bad.

The reason the characters are squared is because it's old technology, and the graphics weren't as good as they are now.

I like 2D the most. It brings out the beauty of Oddworld, something I think MO is unable to do. However I thought SW was done very nicely, but the system is kinda boring for me.

I totally agree with you. AE is the best 2D game, for me!!! Certainly, if OWI revisit MO, it would be almost o completely perfect.

You are right, but I was talking about Oddworld 2D or 3D graphic, not in general. But if I have to talk in general, I prefer 3D graphic like you!

2D Oddworld games defined how awesome OWI are, with some of the best graphics on PS1. I think that they even beat MO's graphics. Not quite SW though.

No, you weren't: I prefer the 3D, but talking about Oddworld games, I prefer the 2D (especially in AE). I didn't play SW and so I don't know if its 3D graphic is good.

The 2D games were good, but that is in the past. Those games were brilliant, especially for the tools they had, but it's onwards and upwards now. Unless a developer plans to release on Marketplace only, going 2D now would be suicide. 3D is not just the future, it is the present and the recent past.

I don't know if the graphic of SW is good or bad because I don't have it and so I can't play it. But I think it is good. MO graphic is good, but comparing it to AE graphic (2D), it's better AE's graphic. I think it because MO is the start of Oddworld in 3D and OWI had to improve it. They improved the graphic when they released SW.

I didn't understand well: are you saying SW and MO graphics' are better than AO and AE graphics' but they win for gameplay?

2D, definitely. Don't tell me Munch's Oddysee can even compete with the detail and beauty of the first two games, especially Abe's Oddysee.
Thing is, when you go from 2D to 3D, you're basically refocusing from art to gameplay. That's all well and good, as far as gameplay goes, but when you're sacrificing the art which is Oddworld...I dunno.

2D, AO and AE had a certain unique quality about them that made me into the oddworld fan I am today. It was a time when 3D was somthing that game developers were still trying to master, it was a hard task back then to have a game that was 3D, had nice smooth graphics and great gameplay, the fact that AO and AE were 2D was the unique quality, they kept the gameplay nice and simple but at the same time challanging AND had some of the most outstanding scene cuts (you know the ones I mean). OWI had done something that some other game developers would proberly think a joke, doing something like that with the technology we have nowadays would never stand and chance. So when you think about it, the only other ways they could compeat with other games is to go 3D like they already have which most of the people in this thread have already admitted to not being quite as good....or make movies.

I think they made the right choice

I love the 2D-games for the gameplay and the nostaligia, but I really think that 3D-oddworldgames are cool. MO was a bit of a disapointment though. I like munch and the story, the graphics are good, but it lacks smooth gameplay. SW was a lot better gameplay, and I like the story, graphics and all, even thoug I initially didn't like the game, and didn't purchase it because it wasn't on mudos. But when I got it and tried it Iit was really nice. so 2D and 3D can both be great, depending on the implements of the gameplay.

MO is not crap, it is only an old 3D game... OWI wasn't expert in 3D games when it release MO. SW is better than it just because is a recent game.

Anyway, I have no actual preference, since I have only played 2-D games. It would be unwise to assume 2D games are awesome due to the fact I have never played any 3D games.

I played MO, and I liked it!!! But comparing MO to AE (AE was released in 1999 and it was an excellent game for PS1 and PC for that time and it was one of the best in 2D graphic), MO was the first game that WI made in 3D, and so they had to improve their work. They did it when they made SW (I didn't play it but I saw its mocies in youtube and they are simply fantastic!).
