Bill Watterson said that Hobbes is two sides of reality, seen differently by different people, in the tenth anniversary book that I have (among the hoardes).
I think (though among the other characters), Hobbes is really the individual most of us like the most. He's just...well, perfect. I see little wrong with him at all, he's often the one who cracks many jokes, sets them off somehow, and the animalistic part of him is also often amusing.
That comic up there isn't a proper one, you do know that, right?
How is Calvin and Hobbes the same joke over and over? No way! Obviously it remains roughly the same (complaining about school, homework, Susie, whatever) but it does change, and is kept fresh, though unfortunately it isn't written anymore.
...and ZOMG, for probably the first time ever, I actually agree with OANST about something...probably the last time, too...
