I got no idea what it is that Alf is saying hear can anyone help me out?

Q: Speaking of names, do Sligs have names? If so, who names them? If not, are they identified by numbers (like all the fan-fiction writers seem to believe)?

Alf: Yes, Sligs have names. They earn them in the crche, after graduating from Slaughter School.

I believe Alf is saying Creche. It's a place where infants are held.

I learnt about it by looking up the word crèche in the dictionary. To many people, it is known as a day care centre or nursary. The missing letter in the Dear Alf column is because Buddy tried to slip a Latin‐1 character into an ASCII file. Hahaha.
