Of all the reasons to boycott Microsoft, that’s a pretty petty one, even if it is because of something personal to you.
I would be appreciative if Microsoft bothered to make Oddworld backward compatible, but already possessing an Xbox it makes no difference to me. Lorne, speaking to Edge, thinks backward compatibility is overhyped:
Do you not feel steps towards backwards compatibility are extending the lifespan of legacy titles?
Who cares about it? I mean, really. Who cares? If you already have those games, you already have the machine! It’s a marketing thing. If I buy a new machine, I’m not putting my old games in there: I want to play new games.
I think he’s neglecting to consider gamers who haven’t yet played the sixth‐generation era Oddworld games but have decided they suddenly want to. Whether that’ll prove to be a significant number of not in the future, I cannot say, but I’m guessing not, for now.
