Hmmm...I don't think there is a difference, but I've actually never really thought about the fact that their skin tone is indeed different.

What I think is, that Glukkons, much like humans vary in skin tone for the same reasons we do: the abundance or lack of sunlight in some regions. That may perhaps affect their skin tone in some way.

Of course, I can't be sure. Although Max and the other moderators will probably be able to elaborate.

what i was thinking is that they were simply done by two different odw inhabitants artists. i mean it would make sense. green glukkons have a slightly differently shaped head too.

There were some theories a while back that they may be different races or possibly even spawn of a different queen but that was never widely accepted.

Wasn't Phleg a sort of gray color? I'd just say different Glukkons
evolve different ways throughout their life. Just like no two humans
look alike (twins being an exception).

Wow, that never occured to me either, though that is very interesting. It's something that needs some thought. Hmm, I wonder.
I'd agree with some of the previous posts. Diffent queens, there like humans none look alike and different races. Thats pretty neat!

Phleg doesnt look like any other glukkons. he is actually my least favorite ones. his eyes are really close together and that makes him look stupid. he also seems fat... hard for a glukkon whit such small center body, but he just does look fat. i dunno just dont like him. it might sound stupid, but to me he seems to be portreyed to look similar to Winston Churchill, with his big sigar big body and rough appearence.

:

well that is because we have different genes from different parents. but glukkons only have Lady Margaret as a gene source + some males i suppose. so, to me this does not explain it.

See, I always thought they came from different regions and that was why they all looked a bit different. Although, at the same time, some of 'em do look remarkably similar, like the Junior Executives from AE. I honestly don't know why, and I doubt we'll ever find out for sure.

Well, Phleg does seem bigger and uglier than the rest, with an oversized
mouth made for whining like a baby. So it's not at all surprising that someone
would think he is a dimwit and not the brightest light of all the glukkons.

Well, yes, it remind me of lizards' scales, whilst Mullock, Dripik and Aslik have brownish skin. By the way they all look, would you even call it skin. It looks like it's diseased.

You know the heavy smoking could have something to do with brewmaster's head, it DOES look diseased. Or somthing with soulstorm brew.

Not to mention working and living in a pollution-spewing factory where I'm sure the chemicals really start to get to them and it effects their appearence. All of them look like they're diseased not just the brewmaster.

They definitely do. I wonder if Glukkons look any different before they start working at such facilities or smoking. Or maybe they're just born diseased-looking from the start

Yeah, that could be, too. Old age, as well, possibly. But it all still stands
by the "the ugliest bunch of carnivorous crustaceans alive" term.

Going along with the chemicals in the factories idea, maybe thats why most muds are green skinned, and thats why sligs are greener in some spots than others. Also muds work all their life there greener than abe because abe left earlier so being away from the factory (like in Paramonia, Scrabania and other wildlife areas) He became blue.
that theory might be it.

But native mudokons are green to start with, so the chemicals would have to alter their colors differently, which has never happened to my knowledge. When it comes to Abe's being blue, I think his color is a symbol, showing us that he is different from all other mudokons (since he's the savior and all, plus he has the sole weilder of that nifty Shrykull ability ). That's all that I can really think of, at any rate.

Well, don't forget mudokons skin colors change to fit their mood. But
I'd agree with Snuzi on Abe's skin being blue, seeing as I've read it
elsewhere.

Well, don't forget with Oddworld being 10 times the size of Earth, it's years
are considerably longer than Earth's as has been discussed before. So
in Oddworld years, they say Mullock is in his 40's-in Earth years, they
say he could be over a 100 years old.

But the length of the year has nothing to do with the aging process, just dates.

Yeah, they would age regardless of how long a year on Oddworld really is.

well the first simple reason i was thinking of for the Glukkons' difference in skin color is that it would be boring to see all os them in one color. there are so many important Glukkon personell which the player needs to destinguish from each other. therefore, this may seem to make sense.

but if we look at it OW wise, my only problem with the chemical solution (of snuzi, i think) is that it isnt only the skin color that differs between red and green Glukkons. its the shape of their heads and face. green ones like Brewmaster or Tex the Glockstar at the auction tend to have larger eyes and narrower heads. (by the way an interesting thing: did anyone notice that in the MO good ending movie Tex the Glockstar does not have ears?? :S i looked hard many times since than but he still havent grown any )

look at these two pics for comparison:

Nah, I brought up the chemical idea, but that's besides the point.

What I wonder is why Glukkons' eyes glow. Is it natural lights in their
eyes like on the fish of Earth who live in the darkest parts of the sea-
because glukkons live in dark areas, too, and it help them see-, or is it just a fad that all the glukkons can afford get because they can afford, or last is that just an effect Lorne added to clearly show the glukkon greed and
cruelness. (But then again, good creatures like the Almighty Raisin and the ratz also have glowing eyes.) It was probably because Lorne was out
of ideas on how their eyes should look.

Working from memory (and praying for TOS to be revived soon ), in the article where Farzad explained how he designed the Ratz, he said that glowing helps draw attention to the eyes and helps to make the facial expression clear.

As for an in-universe theory, I have NFI.

I couldn't say whether that was the most lamest reason to make their eyes glow, but I suppose it helps them communicate better. Nothing against you, of course, Nate.

I would suggest bioluminescence for the glowing, but the eyes are just about the worst place to have that in.
