What is with all the new pointless threads in General Discussion? All the pointless stuff : Whos better Glukkens of Vykkers?
Glukinator in particular is just racking up the stupid points. Can someone please put an end to the retarded threads?

Having said that, I agree that there should be some sort of crack down on incredibly stupid threads being posted somehow... the trick is finding a method thats simple and works. Has the forum ever tried placing a ban on new members from posting topics (still allowed to reply, of course) until they either reach 'X' amount of posts or have been active for 'X' amount of time?

May be a bit drastic in hindsight, but I'm interested to know.

If you don't like a thread, just don't post in it. Threads like that usualy get a nice discussion for a couple of days before it dies out. But if you don't like it, just ignore it. It's not like it's aimed directly at you.

It's not necessarily the thread that's stupid, Havoc, it's the number of similar ones made in one day by the same person. After the more polite remark on the matter doesn't get through the first 3 times, people are going to get irritated and feel inclined to tell him what an idiot he is.

What we post in regards to that in the threads doesn't upset the quality of the discussion if you choose to continue it, but at least he may get the idea.

Havoc hit the nail on the head the first time 'round. Too many of the posts I read in GD are vindictive and nasty. If you don't like the topic, just ignore it. Please.

Yea but my second one makes sense as well. If people still don't get it after being told 6 times, they don't deserve to be treated with respect anymore. Ofcourse, you could just not post in the first place, but you can't resist bashing on a moron forever!

The kid is 12. Six years ago my posts were laughable and annoying. And he's only been posting for 2 days. Give the poor kid a chance. What's he actually done, anyway?

His discussions on Meeches, Munch, action figures and Paramites are perfectly fine. Some may border on being better placed in the Q&A thread, but plenty of people do that. He asked about the Guardian Angel video before consulting the CQA or searching for existing threads. Plenty of people do that in their first few days. You're all over reacting.

You know, I have to agree with Max. Even though this kid has been pretty spammy, I remember hearing about some of our most beloved members today were once little spammy snot heads. Plus, this guy is not NEARLY as revolting as Stingbee (Satan rest his soul).

Call me a hypocrate, but I try, in these present days, to add as much gold to threads as I should, and I apologize to the mods if I have over stepped my limit every ocne and a while. I have said it once, and I will say it again, stop living in this dark OWF! Sometimes I think if that's what you people want OWF to be. And that's exactly what you are continually trying to keep it at with your bitching and moaning about how we are never going to escape this abyssmal despression cast from OWF's lack of informity. Just be happy with what we have now, not what we could have, because it's going to be a long time before we have it. Things will improve, but if you guys continue to produce this depressing aura about the place, we won't notice when the improvements do happen. God....

I don't think I've ever been that mean to him (if I have then I apologise) and I've tried to help him. The fact that he is 12 though is no excuse. I was posting on forums when I was 12. I was sensible, I was even a moderator. If this is his first forum I can understand it more, but if he really doesn't know where to post or what to post, then he should visit this section more and read over the FAQ.

A kid who is 12 should be able to understand the phrase: Do not post stupid threads/topics. Fine if he never visited a forum before, he's new to it all and stuff. Isn't that the more reason to listnen to people who have been here for ages?

So no, his age isn't an excuse. It would be if he was 10 or under, and even then I would expect a kid to simply listnen to what it's being told.

I agree, my age isn't an excuse. You all treat me the same way you treat each other. The only diffence between us is that I had posted before. Trust me, I know what it's like to have to know I had made mistakes before, and I avoid them now. But maybe he heard what Cullen said. There really isn't a lot of popular topics in GD anymore, besides QA and the Buy list topic. Prehaps he's just trying to make interesting topics.

But I do agree, some people had been pretty spamy in the past. I know he will kill me to say this, but I thought I had saw Xavier double post once too. I hadn't read RP rules in beginning when I first came here. So I shouldn't tell people that I never spamed once.

I told him to use the edit button rather than double posting in a non offensive approach, not by Pm though, if that counts. I gave Slig Cake some advice about forum language a while ago.

I didn't PM him, but I gave him some advice in a topic of his. I hope he listens to the help we're all giving him. But slaveless could be right, he might just be trying to increase the discussion in GD, in which case good luck to him, but he might want to try making topics more oriented to the universe of Oddworld and species discussion as opposed to opinions on characters, as opinion topics tend to have a limited lifespan, where as the more open topics like I initially suggested often have more discussion.

People obviously WERE targeting him if his threads have had comments placed in them saying "Dude, you're stupid" or anything similar. As to "what is stupid", well that's purely opinion, so STFU, he might not be stupid after all.

As for posting "This thread is stupid" within such threads, it would be off-topic and spam, so STFU.

As for manking a thread to complain about these threads... well, that's okay.

Those threads, while I dislkie them,m are not actualy pointless. They are valid in themselves and serve a purpose for the poster.

As for pointless threads, everything seems to have been discussed on the issue, so can a mod please oput a lock on this biznatch? No improvements have been made, no good discussion has been made, and pointless arguing is now the criteria.
