Exclamation Unbelievable...

BEFORE YOU READ THIS:
1.THIS THREAD IS NOT RACIST OR BLASPHEMOUS EVEN THOUGH IT MAY SOUND SO.
2.IF YOU DO THINK IT'S INSULTING, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR BRAGGING AND INSULTS.

Ok, I want to bring up an issue. I think it was last week when a Danish cartoon was published in a newspaper which "poked a bit of fun" at a Muslim prophet or the religion. Of course, the Muslims got unreasonably angry over this little incident. I, for one think that was incredibly stupid and unneccesary. I mean, look at Southpark, Family guy, Futurama and The Simpsons.

These cartoons make fun of Christion, Jewish, Budhist and other religions all the time. And the Danish cartoon was in a newspaper. I mean, come on! Anyway, I just read an article that "protesters" are marching through the Middle East burning Danish flags and stuffed pigs as I heard. Not only this, but they're yelling out: "Death to Christians and Jews! Screw democracy!". And look at us (US, AUS, Europe etc.), we don't make such a fuss, even though some Muslims (NOT ALL OF THEM) are insulting our principles and religions. We support them, send them food and money, try to be peaceful, and this is their response. So, I ask you, respected members of the forum, what is your opinion on this?

ONCE AGAIN I'D LIKE TO SAY THAT I WASN'T REFFERING TO ALL MUSLIMS, JUST THE BAD PROTESTERS.

Okay:

1) There's a thread on this already
2) They're protesting more the fact that Mohammed was portrayed in a cartoon (which is deeply insulting to them) than the message of the cartoon.
3) Nonetheless, the cartoon was still deeply insulting.
4) Anyone who can't see that does not have an empathetic bone in their body.

To be honest, I think anyone that's protesting and saying "Europe is next", "Behead all non-Muslims" and "Kill all who insult Islam" should be shot. Seriously, I don't care if you're an old man, an one woman, a kid, or a normal everyday guy. If you insult the country you're living in and the majority of it's population you deserve to be shot. Actually, shot, hung, drawn, quartered and then have your head displayed on the walls of the tower on London. Show them that if they want to protest against this country they have to deal with the consequences.

I have nothing against normal, average, everyday Muslims. But it just pisses me off that they protest about a country that they are living in. A country that is giving them a home and a job and all that shit.

Well... I live in Denmark, although i wasn't born there... And some places it's gone a bit mad. My friend once walked down a street where a bunch of muslims and danish guys were insulting and yelling at each other.
But the reasons to why they have gone this mad is that firstly, the Imamis(or whatever you called them) lied to every muslim country that we hate muslims and stuff like that. So of course they got mad, plus the fact that their Koran sais that you are not allowed to picture their prophet. Everyone should know how seriously muslims take their religion. It's basically the law in their countries.
But all this fuzz is actually our Minister's fault. When the ministers fromt he other countries came for an explanation, he just said that there's nothing to talk about, and that is NOT diplomatic by a politician. Piloticians must never turn their back to things like this. So of course they get angry, and this is a perfect excuse to unite all muslims, and that can be dangerous.
Ah well.... Whutever i actually think both parts are pathetic. The muslims are pathetic by reeacting like this, and the danish are pathetic by thinking nit's such a little deal, AND for drawing the cartoons anyway...
*lol* I love being neutral B-)

The world is rediculous now.

The Holy cross has had to be tripped from some church in England because it will offend Muslims, Jews, Buhddists or any other religions in the world.

In some part of New York Christmas has to be called "The Festive Season"

I remember some years ago when I drew a picture of God in my RE book and my teacher went crazy. He rubbed it out until everything was gone, including the colours and lines.

When Matt Groaning drew God for the latest Holloween special of the Simpsons, I didn't see an army of Christians marching up to the Fox Studios.

Yes, we live in a democracy and we all have a right to voice our opinions, but if we are all made to either hide our religion (Like the Jews in WWII or the Catholics during the times of the Tudors and the Stuarts) or abndone it completely, then I don't see the point in religion at all (I don't believe in God anyway).

If my post is seen as Racism then I apologise, I am by no means racist, as I said earlier, I have a right ot voice my opinion.

In islam, it is forbidden to have a portayel of the prophet Muhammed, for fear that Muslims might worship the image rather than Muhammed himself. That's what they were angry for - it is forbidden. And muslims take their religion very seriousl - it's like law.
Or according to my RE teacher, anyway.

People have a right to believe what they like, and have freedom of religion and voice, but when it comes to having to take down a cross inside a church to stop offence being caused to other religions, it's getting ridiculous (come on, why would they even be inside the church). And christmas being called the festive season?
Bah, humbug. Call it whatever you like. It's still christmas.

Ok, rant over. Hell, do I hate political correctness.

I'm only insulted by the protesting muslims because they all hava the same way of thinking: Discriminate and kill first, find a peaceful solution later.

I'm all for following a religion. If you want to do that, fine by me. I wrote down my statements about religion earlier, they can be found in the religion topic so I'm not going to repeat them. But what I do want to say to ALL muslims out there:

THE WORLD IS NOT ABOUT YOU!!!!!

If I want to make a fun cartoon of some holy figure, then I want to be able to do that without having the entire world in fuss while there are more important things to deal with then a stupid cartoon. If it's up to them, or their religion, anything that hasn't got something to do with their religion is bad. Doesn't mean they automaticly want it dead or destroyed, but it's bad non the less.

I don't respect anyone or any religion that tells it's followers to harm other people or form the world as they see fit. They are one of thousands of retarded religions out there, and they need to adjust to that just like everyone else.

And how were those cartoons insulting? It's the downright truth if you ask me? Mohamed was pictured as a terrorist, and all the people go: HEY! WE'RE NOT TERRORISTS! LET'S BURN THE DANISH EMBASSY DOWN AND MAKE BOMB THREAHTS TO SHOW JUST HOW MUCH WE ARE NOT A TERRORIST!

That right there is the utter most high point of retardness, and If it was up to me: Drop a bomb on every one of those protesting marches that go around. Might not me a humane thing to do but it will certainly get rid of a lot of bullshit in this world...

Disclaimer: This post was probably offence to a whole sh*tload of people out there, as it was supposed to be. If you want respect from me, you have to earn it. And these people are far from earning my respect.

Those cartoons weren't even funny. Or that offending, outside of the fact that they broke the "no graven images" belief.

The one about Heaven running out of virgins made me giggle... but the rest were lame as Hell.

I saw in the news a couple days ago that Muslim artists have been depicting Mohammed for hundreds of years. So I really don't see what their problem is.

They want people to respect their beliefs as they believe they are true. Then why aren't other people allowed to have beliefs that are different to the ones in the Koran?

I never said that. The muslim extremists are totally in the wrong and I was working under the impression that everyone agreed on that. But it pisses me off that people don't see that the newspapers and the cartoonists have also acted badly in this.

:
If you insult the country you're living in and the majority of it's population you deserve to be shot.
So now I'm not allowed to say that Australia, under its present leadership, has become a morally corrupt hellhole where the dollar sign is worshipped above all else?

Do I deserve to be shot?

Yes...yes you do

I think that people should be shot if they abuse their country like burn down their flag if their life doesn't depend on it, or they throw four nuclear powerplants less than 100 miles away from eachother.

But not if you just insult the country, no you don't deserve to be shot. As I said efore, we live in a democracy and we have a right to voice our opinions, so if we wanted to say the UK sucks, and Prince Charles organized the death of Diana (I've been watching far to much Ben Elton) , then we should get away with it squeeky clean.

No because (I'm guessing) you were born in Australia. What I'm basically saying is it makes to sense for people to move to another country then complain about it and say the inhabitants should be killed.

oddveteran93, there's one key difference between The Prophet and Jesus:

It's not offensive to draw Jesus (after all, we see him on crosses all the time). It IS offensive to draw Mohammad in ANY form. Drawing him with a bomb on his turban just adds to the problem.

If he was just portrayed in the cartoon in a light-hearted way (rather than a terrorist) it would probably still cause protest.

:
Havoc

If it's up to them, or their religion, anything that hasn't got something to do with their religion is bad.
This only happens with people who're too power mad / ignorant of the true message to THINK! No religion is truely about "Kill everything that isn't in this religion", it's only the people who do not think about their religion who try to do this.

Let's face it! Muslim, Christian and Jew all worship the same God. In that regard they are the same religion, just with different practice ideas. They've all got the same core, just different route out of it.

Cheer! Well said and I like it. I mean, they do all believe in the same basic principles with a few differences, for example Jews don't believe that Jesus was the son of God, just a very good Rabbi(sp?). And in the Islamic religion God is called Allah (or am I hideously wrong with that?).

I've said it once, and I'll probably keep sayin' it. I'm religious (Chistian), I have nothing against religion, but I am against trying to force that religion on people that don't want it and tell them their going to hell if they don't, because frankly, I doubt it. There are plenty of people who are good people and ain't religious. I'm also against violence because someone offended your religion, of course, being offended isn't a problem, but that give no one the right to go on the rampage...

Rant over, shutting up.

the brew master, NO!

All I have to do is mention "The Crusades" and you can argue "when Chirstians parctice religion, people die". It's not true. Infact, it's damn prejudice.

When EXTREMEISTS "practice", people die.

Sorry, got a bit overly agitated there.

You cannot judge a religion by a minority of it's followers though, TBM.

I wouldnt say these people should be shot, but they deserve it , going mad and saying that england should be bombed all over a cartoon. If they love their god so much, they wouldnt go and kill people. In many shows by Matt Groaning theres tons of stuff about religions but no one ever cares about it becuase its Matt Groaning.

No, it's because he is respectful of other people's beliefs and doesn't write something simply for the controversy.

Example: the episode of The Simpsons where Homer becomes a heretic; Homer is not saying anything controversial. In fact he's saying things that many (if not most) religious people have thought at some stage or another (I'm not a bad guy! I work hard, and I love my kids. So why should I spend half my Sunday hearing about how I'm going to Hell?). And the episode ends with Homer getting a good lesson on the importance of religion:
Ned: Homer, God didn't set your house on fire.
Rev. Lovejoy: No, but He was working in the hearts of your friends and neighbors when they came to your aid, be they Christian, Jew, or ... miscellaneous.

So I fail to see how there is anything there that anyone should get upset about. Now, If The Simpsons had an episode where they showed Mohammed breakdancing and singing a song about how all Muslims are suicidal hypocrites, that would be a different story.

nate, if The Simpsons had an episode showing Mohammed there'd be problems. No matter what context, it's offensive to depict him.

Now, The Simpsons has showed God and Jesus in a less-than-perfect light and I'm sure people have been offended. And I'm sure some people have protested outside of the law. Of course, it wasn't a huge riot so it wouldn't have made world news.

Abe1: "I wouldnt say these people should be shot, but they deserve it..."

Then you are saying "they may as well be shot". There's no point saying "no... but yes". They should be punished under the law (i.e. Given a trial to prove they're guilty). You can't just open fire on a crowd and hope you get the "right" ones.

I just fail to see why people get offended by people who depict their prophets or whatever. I mean come on, it's not their problem. If i wanna draw muhammed i do so, and i dont care what other people think. Why can't they just ignore it? I mean is there even a reason to overreact like this cos of some stupid drawings?? Daqnmark and some other countries are in trouble for showing some drawings published by 3 people or something like that. It's pathetic... O.o

It's because the Islamic religion is heavily opposed to idolatry and even attempting to depict a holy figure is extremely offensive.

I'm rather torn on the issue, because I believe that people should be able to whatever they want (as far as publications go), but I think there are some things that should just be respected, and this goes way beyond disrespect. I dunno.

I side with Kimon, T-nex. Once you find out that depicting the Prophet is offensive, it goes more like "remember that gold cow? This is so much worse... like Jesus being shown molesting children or something"
